Oh indeed. Sometimes you need to make yourself aware of these things and then decide if you can live with them as you're very likely to be able to change them.

We built our house on land family land beside a primary school. Around 13:00 and 15:00 its carnage outside however we're not there because we're both at work and when we are there we just make a point of not going in or out at those times.

Not a pups chance we can change it though.

For some other people it might be a real problem, however it impacts us very little and we work around it :)

We loved living opposite a school in London. Like you said, we were at work at drop off/pick up so it never affected us.

When we got home though, there was loads of parking because no one lived across the road and we had perfect privacy at the front because there was no one there but a great big, empty playground.

    :D

I've always said that I could drive for two days completely off road in the Sahara, camp for the night, and when I woke up in the morning the Stolly (Always wanted one!) would be parked in.

I live in a pretty rural place. No nearby houses, or anything much.
    I know I'm lucky. . .but!

    Guess what?
Somebody comes here regularly, to go walking I suspect, and parks right next to my drive. It's a narrow lane so it makes it as awkward as they could legally make it to pull out / in.
It's not "deliberate" it's the herd instinct I think. There are other places to park! Really close too!

Making roads access only is one idea but this would significantly increase 999 response times.
I fail to see how. Other than for safety reasons the rules of the road are ignored to some extent when on a blue light call.

Blue lights have no effect on the laws of physics though. What the OP is talking about is physically closing road to through traffic with barriers made out of things like planters, bollards and the like.

If through traffic is physically blocked then emergency service vehicles have to use alternative routes. Which can lead to situations where the emergency crew can see the address they need to get to, but have to drive the long way round to actually get there.

In some areas they used padlocked gates to close through roads, with the emergency services (particularly fire crews) being issued with keys to open the gates. In reality opening the gate can often take longer than simply driving along a different route, so isn't something that gets done so much now.

Plus the local kids filling the lock with chewing gum or similar and locals seeing the dead end as a handy place to park.

Not sure how that works. How can you walk and then park a car there?

They carry it on their back obviously.
I've edited the post for clarity. :D

Maybe send the kids out to play in the street? That will slow down/inconvenience the drivers and they'll stop driving that route...
