    on my 70s ford , air con is accessed by prodding the MIL , who was asleep on the back seat

    What is it with this idea of gluing a tv screen on top of the dash, have they never heard of styling ?

    I have wondered the same, in many new cars it looks like it was added as an afterthought.


    In my 3 year old focus the screen is built in the fascia and doesnt stick up above it, yet in the new shape focus it does


    As for the Ops question (will he return anyway given its a first post)


    Exec car + no screen probely not possible

    In my Insignia it can be accessed both ways ... buttons and/or touchscreen. If you press a button the touchscreen shows that display so you can see what fan speed etc. you're setting.

    It's on the touchscreen on my Volvo, or you can talk to it but you have to use the exact phrase required!

    Yes they are ugly, mine is stylishly incorporated into the dash.
    Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.

    It's probably part of a move to raise the screen closer to the windscreen so that the driver doesn't have to take his eyes so far from the road ahead to see the navigation map (for example).
