Improving poor credit rating

Hi everyone,
I’m so sorry if this has been asked lots but my search isn’t working and I couldn’t see anything from a quick look.
So long story short about 10 years ago I had bad credit. I sorted all debt out, all paid off and should be written off any history now.
But I still have a poor credit rating and can’t find a way to fix it.
There’s nothing negative showing on reports, no debt, no defaults, etc... and I’m on the electoral roll.
I did change my name 2 years ago which doesn’t seem to have helped much as between avoiding credit and that I seem to have no good credit history now either. I do have sky tv and a mobile contract with consistent payments so do have some history.
I applied for a specific credit builder credit card, one of those with silly high interest but it was okay because I knew it was purely to build credit. But I was declined for that even.
Any advice on where I go now? How can I improve my credit when no one will touch me, despite there being zero negatives against me anymore.

The rating you see is made up, and not of any relevance. What matter is what is on your credit files.
It seems there's nothing much wrong, but you do need to build a little more history. Try another credit card application - Vanquis is probably the easiest to get.
Have you checked all three files to ensure there is nothing nasty lurking there?0 -
Sky tv don't report to CRA's so that won't be helping.
Presumably the mobile contract is showing.
Don't you have any credit accounts left from the past? Did you default everything?0 -
Have a good look through your file and see exactly what information is showing.
Is the CRA up to date with your ER or is this something that has been updated recently?
Does your current account show?
Is your mobile phone showing?
Are these accounts being marked as 'up to date' each month?
Are all/any previous addresses showing correctly?
Try an eligibility checker, it's not guaranteed but could be used as a rough guide - try one more application but if that declines then wait a while.
