He is threatening to involve authorities or even come to my address to retrieve the product.

Be honest, have you told him you're keeping the jacket and not paying him for it?

Anyway you can't, it's not unsolicited. Either pay for the jacket or let him collect it. You shouldn't be out of pocket though.

How much is the jacket worth?

Even ignoring legalities, do you have any morals at all?
If you don’t want it, ask him to collect it.
If I was in his shoes and you were nearby, I’d also just turn up at your door if you were being as unreasonable as you have been so far :)

I was under the belief that if a product has been delivered to me without my intention and knowledge that I have every right to keep this? This is only what I have read from the Unsolicited Goods Act 1971

It seems you missed this part of the Act you mention:
“unsolicited” means, in relation to goods sent to any person, that they are sent without any prior request made by him or on his behalf.

The purpose was to stop companies sending goods supposedly free, with no prior contact, with the sole intention of billing for them later. It was not intended to let parties keep goods when there had been a genuine mistake.

The same type of jackass who sends out goods that were not asked for and then insists on payment perhaps...
Let him go to the authorities who will ask you why you don't want to pay and tell them you never agreed to it being sent.
If he wants to collect then let him.

I really will never understand why posters here think it is at all reasonable for someone to send unsolicited goods and then demand payment
This means the trader is making an unfair profit
In this context unsolicited is the usual rather than legal meaning
    Collins Dictionary
Something that is unsolicited has been given without being asked for and may not have been wanted.

ask them for a returns label or to come and collect the jacket if you don't want it,
or pay and keep it if you do.

It could be because the story is less believable than the average Emmerdale storyline.

Who said it was reasonable for someone to send unsolicited goods and demand payment for them?

All people have done is point out they're not unsolicited so OP should let him collect. Never mind the fact that we don't know if the seller is a business or private individual.

They're not unsolicited. That's kind of the point.

Assuming all is as the OP says then he can't keep the jacket for free, but at the same time our jacket merchant can't insist he buys it. Keep it and pay, or send it back (at 'seller's' expense).

What sort of jacket needs to have shipping costs "calculated"?

    Perhaps it's a Full.Metal.Jacket! ;)
