Agree with all of above , railforums also best place for this0

I am not sure that an app, (whatever that is), failure would sway a Mag. If I was a Mag it would cut no ice with me.
Although that site deals with railway specific issues, so the advice there may be more suitable with regards to what to expect/how to proceed.From the Plain Language Commission:

@twhitehousescat No, it doesn't.0

Try adding in this railway sub forum for disputes/ prosecutions etc

state the byelaw, and any mitigating steps you took, such as tried to pay but system (app) didn't work
Hi Half-way and also your follow up with the caveats as to how far they could be able to advise. I'll ask there and see what can be done. Thank you.0 -

Those posters deal with TOCs every day and might have experience as to whether that TOC accepts settlements or will consider these circumstances if you contact them. Ideally maybe they will negotiate with you and vacate the hearing.
Hi Coupon-mad, thank you, I will try my best and seek advice on that forum.0 -

Thanks The Deep, that is really helpful. I hadn't realised that apps to pay for Parking (like Ringo, and Indigo's own one) were not that common yet or well known. It helps me to realise that explaining the fact that the driver pays via the app every day they park there (and I have evidence of that via bank statements) but the app failed on those 2 days (and I have no evidence of that) will probably get me short shrift.
I will ask advice on the forum recommended by Halfway.0 -

Not necessarily
The magistrates courts do grant adjournments
The OP might consider using a solicitor to apply for one0 -
Thanks everyone for looking at this for me and for your advice. I am off to the forum Halfway recommended. I would like to think that actively not paying for a train ticket in the hope of not getting caught is different (ethically) to paying to park every day but failing to do so on an occasion because an app failed to work and there was no other way to pay (because the intention to pay was there) but I can see based on your responses that without evidence it is not going to look very different in the eyes of the law! Anyway, thanks again for all the advice.0
