Great news that DH's operation appears to have gone well - knees are tricky things.

My DH likes his gadgets and shiny things too. :rotfl: He has finally started to save for things though rather than whacking it on a CC.

Good news that you hit payout on Vypr, they have usually been really quick to pay when I have cashed out. :) It's a good wee app to check when you have a minute or two to spare - as you said, it's not very time consuming.
Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts. Car loan 1 £11,174, Car loan 2 £5,532, CC 0% BT £780. Debt Free Diary to try & keep spending in check.
  • VYPR money arrived today so sent this & a TT across to CC1.

DH continues to recover well :T He's also applied for a new balance transfer card today (0% transfer fee) it's for 18 months and the balance is large enough for us to transfer both existing credit card balances.

This will help us out as CC2's interest free period was due to run out during the run up to us remortgaging next year when our current mortgage deal expires so pleased to get this sorted now. It also feels good that we'll only have 2 debt sources rather than 3 :o

We're also going to start paying £100 per month back to Mum (family loan) so we can start bringing this total down more quickly. Just need to decide whether to try to clear the new CC in 18 months (approx £360 per month) or to have a smaller regular payment but continue to send overpayments from extra money earned.

Finally, as a future family treat we've also set up a holiday savings pot of £50 per month. I've had no inclination to go too far while the boys were so young but it's feeling more manageable now that DS2 is a little older, no plans yet but something for us to look forward to next year as this year's been a hard slog.
  • Hey Dancing

Good to hear DH operation went well. You are doing great with the debt repayments, you are so on the ball it will be in the 9's in no time.

Glad to hear that the operation went well and that your DH is using this period to think about and talk about what you want from your joint future. You are doing really well.

  • Early start today, wide awake at 5am so had downstairs cleaned and tidies by the time the boys woke up at 630 :T

Car had its service today, this one included replacing the timing belt. I mentioned a couple of things I wanted my mechanic to check as there's been a couple of strange noises in recent days & turns out I also needed brake pads replaced and some other minor work done so the bill is likely to be bigger than expected. My mechanic is pretty reasonable with labour charges so fingers crossed there's enough in the car repair pot to cover it.

Still waiting for DH's new credit card to arrive then we can get it activated and complete the transfer from the 2 existing cards we have.

Walked loads more than usual today with not having the car and my goodness I am so unfit! Something else I need to work on alongside the debt ;)

Not sure of weekend plans yet apart from DH has a gig on Sunday (with strict instructions not to lift or move any equipment and just sit still while he plays). It'll do him good to get out and do something just for him. As for the rest of the weekend I guess we'll play it by ear, would be good if we could get out and about for a little vehicle though as it's DS1's half term next week but I'm working most of it so won't be able to do very much with him. I must admit it'll be nice not to have to incorporate the school run into work routine for a few days though :)

Not additional debt payments made since I logged in and still no progress with planning anything for Christmas, I did get a few gifts last month but have come to a complete standstill. Need to get a list on the go I think :p

    Happy weekend everyone x

  • Hi all

Well this last week or so has passed in a blur, barely checked in on here.

DH overdid it a bit last weekend and ended up with one leg twice the size of the other  so a telling off from me and from the physiotherapist for DH :naughty: I'd like to say it worked but he had another gig last night and is pretty sore again today. I'm trying not to get too annoyed as I know he doesn't want to let people down who have booked his band but for goodness sake man, give yourself time to recover!!!

The new credit card is all set up with the balance transfers complete so have updated my signature to reflect we now only have the 1 CC and the loan from Mum. She told me off for wanting to increase the payments to her to £100 so have agreed to stick to the £50 per month for now :o We're considering setting up a regular saver to offset the loan to Mum so we feel like we're making better inroads to this without her telling us off ;)

It's been a bit weird not overpaying anything for a few days, have cashed out a couple of times from Prolific since I was last on here as had a few good paying surveys but not much extra money sourced from elsewhere. Any extra income from surveys, etc has been put in a savings pot on my current account and will be overpaid once we have the payment details for the new CC, the statement is due 6 Nov. Don't think I mentioned we're due to get £20 cashback for this card so we've actually made money by doing the transfers :T

The car ended up costing £350, not bad for the amount of work done but more than was in the car pot. Also have to tax one of the cars 1 Jan so need to rejig a couple of pots over the next couple of pays to balance everything.

Payday was Friday for me and then next Thursday for DH, apart from the car repair pots the budget has held up this month despite paying much more off the debt than normal (a total of £794 paid in October as opposed to an average of £323 in previous months), just typical that the car needed extra work but needs must.

Still no progress made on the Christmas shopping work has been flat out and have worked extra hours and then between juggling everything at home with DH being a bit incapacitated and DS1 being off school for half term, my feet have barely touched the ground. The clocks changing today have just about finished me off from a tiredness point of view as the boys were up early as normal and I've just felt out of sync all day.

Back to a more normal routine tomorrow so I'm sure everything will settle down. My lovely SIL begins her chemo/radiotherapy tomorrow so is understandably anxious, as are all of us around her. We've spent a bit of time with her and my brother the last few days as the boys are so full on she says they're a welcome distraction ;)

Well I think that's enough for one post! Hope everyone else is doing well, take care x
