How is it Saturday already?
So in my last post I mentioned I should have less interruption to my work days due to sharing the school runs with DH, that all got turned on it's head as DS2 came down with a sickness bug swiftly followed by DS1 2 days laterOf course, both of them started being sick in the middle of the night, both all over their beds and naturally DH didn't hear a thing! So I've been on full on mombie mode all week. Both boys have also developed a cough but were covid free when I tested them yesterday.
With the children being off, DH and I took it in turns to work from the living room so we could keep an eye on whatever combination of boys were home and we managed to do the remaining school runs, attend all scheduled meetings/work calls without distraction and somehow kept on top of both our workloads, exhausting though and we're both VERY glad it's the weekend!
This did mean no money spent Mon-Thu as no opportunity to do so, we did get an A$da delivery yesterday so spends there. Still waiting on the TCB money becoming payable too.
Cancelled the boys swimming lesson today as a precaution so planning a quieter day, the boys both seem much better so will try to get them out for some fresh air. We've got someone coming round to quote for clearing a lot of overgrown bushes in our much neglected garden as it's getting extremely difficult to enjoy the garden but we both agree that we're never going to be 'gardening' people who will give it the attention it needs (we're more sit out on a sunny day enjoying a beer' people) so we're going to get it as low maintenance as possible. Once the bushes are removed it'll need a new fence so it's a bit of a project for the coming months.

Oh no Dancing, sorry to hear about the sickness bug, it's the absolute pits when they're being sick all over themselves and their beds. 😩 It's also the amount of washing it generates as well, no wonder you're exhausted with working on top of all that. I'm lucky that DH is generally a light sleeper so will wake when he hears me get up and we can usually split the cleaning - one gets the sicky child and the other deals with the sick covered bed/floor/wall. 🤢
Hope the garden quote isn't too expensive, I enjoy gardening but don't get to do as much as I'd like so the garden is only semi neglected. I did generally go for low maintenance plants/bushes and the hedging I chose is also fairly low maintenance though so it doesn't need much trimming etc. We were lucky that we got to choose everything we planted as it was just a rectangle of grass at the back and a smaller rectangle at the front when we moved in.Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts. Sorry about the bug. Sounds like a rest is much neededAchieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

Just when I thought the boys were on the mend DS1 was sick again through night
so the washing machine is on again, anyone got any match sticks for my eyes?
DH and I were both due to be out of the house for work tomorrow but thankfully I've had a message to say my meeting has been cancelled due to heating issues at the venue so I can WFH and keep an eye on DS1 as he won't be allowed back to school until Tuesday.
Garden quote was in the region of what we expected so they're booked in for the end of the week, we'll get a separate quote for fencing once we can see exactly what space we have to play with when the bushes are removed. This will give us time to put some money aside for it too. We had a good chat with our next door neighbours about our plans and they're totally onboard as they're like us and complete non-gardenersso that's a relief, wouldn't want to cause any upset.
DH had a gig last night so I'm letting him have a lie in, can see me going for a nap after lunch to try to catch up on lost sleep. It's raining here so a lazy PJ day sounds like an ideal activity today.2 -
Oh no Dancing, the sickness bug DD had around Christmas was like that, I kept thinking she was better as no sickness for a day then she'd throw up in her bed again at night. 😩 Hope DS1 recovers soon and no more sick for you to deal with. It just feels endless doesn't it? DS1 has managed a little breakfast and is playing with DS2 in their bedroom at the moment so keeping everything crossed we're at the end of it, I'm starting to dread going to bed 😬2

Yuk, sick bugs are mank. The whole house smells and makes your stomach churn and then when your stomach churns you think 'am I getting ill?' Hope you're at the end of it.DFD March 2025 (£35000 paid off)

Totally agree OhSh, I've been using antibac spray on everything but still feel like the house smells 😌 it's been a bit milder here today with the rain so I've had l the windows open to let some fresh air in which has helped I think. Here's hoping we have a quiet, vomit free night 🤞
Just a quick check in with NSD and step counts:
NSD's - 4. (10 in total for Jan)
Steps - 50,693, daily average 7241 (143,405 total for Jan, average 6828 per day).
An improvement on last week, exceeded 10,000 steps on 2 days. Definitely moved more with having to strip beds in the middle of the night, constantly sorting washing and checking on poorly children while working!
Hope everyone else is okay x2 -
Both boys back to school today and DH is office based, can't tell you how good it feels to know I've got an uninterrupted day to catch up on work without hearing 'Muuuuuuuum' every 5 minutes, small wins!3
