  • Well I haven't made any progress on the wrapping since my last post but have got the cards sorted and posted along with 1 gift that also had to be posted. It'll get done once I find my motivation, DH will be given his fair share to wrap too.

The weather has been a shock to the system after being so mild for the time of year, we've definitely had the heating on a lot more, hoping to reduce it significantly when it becomes warmer/wetter at the weekend as I anticipate next month's bill being 😱😱. Apart from the extra energy use we really haven't been spending too much money with being so busy so it should all balance out.

DH and I are in the throes of clearing lots of little niggly jobs at work in readiness FF or the Christmas break (he finishes on Friday, the boys and I on Tuesday), the boys are so excited by the snow and ice, it's really adding to their sense of wonder but sadly not translating into DS2 sleeping any longer 😬 However after the awful news about the children in Solihull this weekend I'll definitely take a lack of sleep in my stride, I can't stop thinking about those poor boys and their families, just heartbreaking 💔

Hope everyone is keeping safe and well xx

It is heartbreaking about those kids - it keeps nagging at me too. Definitely time to hug your own ones close.

I haven't started wrapping yet despite my best intentions either - and like you my heating has gone up a lot due to the sever weather. It's due to ease up soon so hoping it won't be too bad for the bill.

  • Thankfully a milder +3 degrees here today after -7 most of the week, must dig out the sun cream 🤣

Wrapped 1 gift for the boys swimming teacher as it was their last lesson of the year yesterday, still not attempted any others 🙈 both boys got their level 1 certificates and badges from swimming yesterday so they're both feeling very proud of their achievements.

DS1's lucky name struck again, won £50 at the school Xmas fayre, as with the previous £100 won we are adding this to our treats pot for our trip on Wednesday (also planning on asking DS1 to choose some lottery numbers...)

DS2 has unexpectedly lost 3 bottom teeth in the last week 😱 seems really young at only 4 years old but the teeth are healthy looking and he is extremely tall for his age (often gets confused for DS1's twin despite a 2.5yr age gap) so I'm putting it down to that rather than anything sinister, dentist checkup due in the new year so they can do an assessment too. The tooth fairy has has to dig deep to find pennies to pay for these as she usually pays by card everywhere 🤣

DH has finished work for the year thanks to hols and Flexi, the boys and I finish on Tuesday & I think we're all ready for the break. My payday is a week early on the 21st so will move to the savings account until 'real' payday on the 28th. Not sure when DH gets paid, usually the last day of the month so perhaps the 30th?

I'm sure there's more to add but time for the boys bath and bed routine so I'll leave it there.

Hope everyone else is okay x

Good that you finished today too.

Eek to losing 3 bottom teeth so young - but no idea when they are due.

Great win - definitely get him to pick your numbers.

  • Happy Christmas Eve!
We've had a lovely couple of days away since my last post, the boys had the best time and it was good to have a change of scenery. Presents for anyone who doesn't live in our house have been wrapped and distributed and my brothers, Mum and I went out for a meal to celebrate Mum's birthday earlier this week so it's been a busy but fun few days. We did the food shop yesterday and used our A$da rewards pot (£69!!!) to buy some treats for the next few days.
The boys are super excited for Christmas so we're trying to keep them occupied and entertained, so far today we've had breakfast, made Xmas snow globes, watched the Cbeebies panto and they're currently sat quietly doing jigsaws. The weather is looking okay so we may go for a walk later to get some fresh air.
We're having quite a few visitors over the next few days so DH and I have been giving the house a good clean, just the kitchen and family living room left to do and then once the boys are asleep we'll need to wrap their gifts and make up their stockings. The plan is to order a takeaway and enjoy a glass or 2 of wine while we do the wrapping, as long as the boys don't take too long to settle.
DH and I have both been paid early so have transferred the money to our savings until the correct pay days on the 28th and the 30th.
Wishing everyone a happy and peaceful Christmas, ((((big hugs to anyone that needs them)))) xxx

  • We got the wrapping done but not the takeaway and wine as I felt a bit iffy, this was wise as around 3am Christmas morning I came down with a sickness bug 😷

I managed to rally a little when the children woke up at 530 and enjoyed watching them open their presents while lying on the sofa and then when back to bed for a couple of hours.

Thankfully we'd done the prep for dinner on Christmas Eve so DH took over cooking duties, we gave family members the option of whether they wanted to come or not (they did) and I just kept my distance from everyone but enjoyed hearing the chatter from a distance (thank goodness we have two living rooms 🤣)

Thankfully I wasn't sick again so I  rallied enough to have some soup around 4pm. I've just had my Christmas dinner this afternoon and it was yummy 😋

Most importantly, the boys still had a fantastic time, DH and my brother kept them entertained throughout the day as did the other visitors we had popping in at different times through the day (Mum, MIL, brother, nephews, nieces), no one seems to have caught the lurgy thank goodness.

Today has been a PJ day for us all, I've been playing with the boys and their new toys and games and squeezed in a 2 hour nap 😳

Definitely a different Christmas day to what I planned but the children are happy, our visitors were successfully fed and watered and DH kept everything running smoothly - definitely earned some brownie points!

Hope everyone else had a good day xx
