Why can't drivers think of others and indicate on roundabouts?

On approach to the roundabout, yes it could be described as the outside lane, but whilst going round the roundabout turning right it becomes the inside lane of the roundabout. We get this almost every time roundabouts are discussed...
It may be the outside (outer radius) of the curve - but it's still the "inside lane" on a public road. Does the inside become the outside when you go round a right-hand bend? It only swaps sides if you're talking about racetracks and taking the inside line.
Could we use nearside and offside for clarity perhaps?I need to think of something new here...0 -

Here's a question - how do you know how many lanes go aorund a roundabout?
I drive the same route every day to work, and there's several roundabouts where there are no markings, but people decide, because it's wide enough for two cars, there are two lanes. If I take the middle, I get beeped and sworn at.
If I hit someone, would it be my fault for driving across two (non-existent) lanes, or thiers for over/undertaking when it's only one lane?

Very worn road markings but it looks like some of the give-ways have 2 lanes. You shouldn't straight line a roundabout if there's someone beside you, of course, but if no-one is beside you it doesn't really matter. If you approach together you need to co-operate. And you shouldn't enter a roundabout a such a speed that you need to straight-line it, you need to slow down as it's a junction and people could drive out in front of you. It would likely go 50-50 with insurance as they won't care. Simply expecting space from someone who may or may not be paying attention isn't a good plan.0
