Why can't drivers think of others and indicate on roundabouts?

In the spirit of the middle-lane hoggers thread, why are drivers so poor at indicating on roundabouts?
I mean the very basic concept that surely everyone can grasp is that as you pass the exit before the one you are taking, then (and only then) you flick on your left indicator.
That means that those of waiting to join the roundabout from the road you are taking to exit do not sit there thinking we have to give way and miss our chance to join the roundabout. (also any pedestrian waiting to cross that road does not find themselves about to get run over because they thought you weren't leaving the roundabout).
If you can master that basic skill, we could then move on to using your right indicator to show that you are continuing round the roundabout. But I fear that will be too advanced for some...

Rule number 1 - trust nothing and noone, not even indicators.
Rule number 2 - assume EVERYONE on the road doesn't know how to drive and is a moron.

I have often thought a central front mounted "straight ahead" indicator would useful in mini roundabout situations.0

I thought newer cars were no longer fitted with indicators.Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.0

Barely any drivers think about anyone else, and I now fully expect it. It's the best way to drive - assume every other driver is an ignorant, selfish so-and-so and you'll be safer and not get annoyed.0

during a driving lesson I was waiting to join a roundabout,
A car entered form the previous entry signalling left.
My instructor told me to move out, but I was watching the front wheels of the car and they were not turning .
I did not move and the car continued round the roundabout,
My instructor did acknowledge that I had made the correct decision.
A lesson learned never to trust that a driver is indicating correctly.0 -
not an excuse but part of the problem in that rab approaches seem to be designed with more and more of a leftward turn which will cause a rightward indicator to auto cancel.0

A few days ago a young woman in an oversized 4x4 went all round a small local roundabout and back the way she came from without indicating. Clueless drivers avoiding accidents thanks to the competence of others.
P plates for a year then a second instructional test might help improve basic driving standards.0
