Other thread/boards are all part of MSE, as members we are part of MSE. All in together, not against each other. People talk about other boards as if they are totally separate, they're not.

A difference of opinion doesn't mean people don't like each other, it's just a different point of view. I know you get the odd loon here and there :D but there's no point in running back to the board you consider to be 'home', and saying you feel sorry for a user and you'll never leave 'home' again. Stand up and defend the user, woman :rotfl: I do, if I feel strongly about it.

  • Thewre is some pretty nasty stuff on the Housing Board too, especially from people who are enquiring about exercising their Right to Buy a Council house.

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton
  • Hi tru :hello:, I accept that others have a difference of opinion, what did upset me though was the sarcasm and nastiness in response to a reasonable post. No need for it and I can imagine it would make newbies just turn and run. I usually do post on DFW as debt is my issue, however in all the posts I have seen on DFW, none have been offensive... sometimes opinionated - which is perfectly fine. Maybe it is the old "in the face of adversity" thing.. pulling together that makes this board so supportive.

In my view we are all here for the same objective of saving money whether that be debt busting, getting the best APR for loans or paying off the mortgage and should treat each other with courtesy and respect. Not stoop so low as to be sarcastic i.e

Yawn. Just found a cure for my insomnia.

    Shocking.

    Terrible.

    OMG

How terribly offensive it must be to receive a letter offering a service you don't want or need.

P.S. Why not just throw it in the bin

Squirrel, I've just re-read my post, hope it comes across as I meant it :o Some people see a poster as a stranger/newbie if they're posting on a board they're not usually on, even if they've been a member for a long time, then the poster feels like they're not welcome there - what I was trying to say (not just to you, but to everyone) was don't feel like you have to go back to your favourite/usual board just because one of the loons make you feel like you don't belong there  I don't think I'm explaining my self very well - how am I doing so far? :rotfl:

I've seen offensive posts on DFW before, in fact I've seen them on all boards :D

There are ways and means of disagreeing with someone. I disagree with people *all* the time, but I do try to avoid upsetting them - for a number of reasons.

I "grew up" on Usenet, so I can roast people alive with the best of them - but I just don't see a reason for doing so.

    OP
If you have a problem with someones reply to your post (i'm gathering it was my reply that you deem 'childish') then come and talk to me about it, dont make other threads on other boards complaining.
    Because imo that is childish.

I couldn't see anything on that thread that was dreadfully offensive. I obviously have thicker skin. I actually thought the whole thread was a waste of time. Surely we all know that lenders like Provident have huge interest rates? I believe you still have to want to borrow money from them, they don't lend to people who don't ask . And if the OP had done a search loads of threads relating to Provident would have come up.

LOL - this isn't the school playground - all comments on all threads are up for discussion. If someone wants to discuss a comment you made - why not - we are all posting on a public forum :)
(Having said that - I don't believe anyone said anything too offensive on that thread - I just think if it's said on a forum, it's all up for grabs. Plus - I don't think it was your reply which they found childish - I thought your reply was a good response to the original OP. Sorry - I've probably stopped making sense now)

Having said that, I do take the OP's point - DFW is a very cosy board compared to others on here - I think that is a good thing, as many people need the support, friendliness & sense of community it provides.
