I don't think you understand. I don't care is the app is mediocre or not, I've been using GMail as my email provider since 2004 and I'm not just going to dump it because of Huawei.

As said, it’s more like you don’t understand.

Gmail is a mail service that can be accessed on many apps, the Google Gmail app is a simply an app to access Gmail on.

No one is taking the ability to use Gmail away...
    What an absurd reply.

I agree, your reply was quite absurd.

The GMail app lets me send and read emails. Not sure what more it needs to do?

After looking at the Aqua email app it just appears to be an app for accessing email via IMAP. Same way that a built in email client works or Office Outlook/Thunderbird on a PC. Nothing new.

Which is a bit irrelevant to your previous post (and no, Aqua isn’t just IMAP).

The point is there are tens of email apps that can be used to access Gmail, and a user doesn’t lose access to Gmail by not having the Gmail app...

I'm not sure if this is a serious comment or not ;)

If you just read your emails and sent emails then your inbox would be full of every email ever sent which isn't very organised, which i know quite a few people do just do this

I read my email and then i might want to put it in a certain category by attaching a label/putting it in a folder for example, or i might want to snooze it and have it pop back up when i'm at a certain location or at a specific date/time. I might want to only be notified about certain emails at certain time periods during the day etc.

There are lots of things that some apps can do better than others and Gmail does have some of these features and some it can't do. But automating a lot of this means you spend less time dealing with emails when you don't want too.

A good tip not many people know an easy way to filter emails when you have a Gmail account.
Lets say your email is: LeeUK@gmail.com
You can add +"something" to it and it will still get to you so LeeUK+Low@gmail.com still gets to your inbox. If you give this address to forums and any other sites you think are low priority you can filter these so they don't send a notification to you phone so you aren't disturbed by low priority emails.
You can then go even further and give a different email to each site and track which sites share your email if you get any spam.

YouTube can be accessed via the web browser on any smart phone, Waze can be used instead of Google Maps and a lot of people think it's better for navigation (It is also technically a google app). But you can also use Google Maps through the web browser.

Just think most people don't have a YouTube App, Google Maps App or Gmail App on their PC but still manage to use all these through the web browser.

I'm not saying this to promote going out and buying a phone without the App Store but i'm just giving examples of how their is plenty of alternatives.

I already know all that and do all that with GMail. I access my GMail mostly on my PC at home. Everything important goes into labels automatically like bills, payslips, other subs, etc, and I use name+label@gmail addresses when signed up to newsletters/forums etc so I know who breaks data protection when they sell off my details.
