Broadband switching

What is the optimum point on an existing broadband contract to initiate a switch to a new broadband provider so as to avoid a penalty charge being imposed by the original provider through leaving early?

What is the best procedure to use in order to insure a smooth change over?

However if anyone has any further information to add I would be pleased to read it.

As stated in the original thread two weeks and the providers handle it all. You just pick somebody and let them sort it out. The only exception is moving to/from Virgin to a BT provider as that can't be transferred in this way so you would end up with two payments if you're not careful - these you have to cancel yourself.

Current provider often comes back with a better offer once switch started .

    Not always.

Was with TalkTalk, found a better deal elsewhere and they weren't the least bit interested in retaining. So I switched and there was no further contact for a month until they popped up to say they were refunding my outstanding balance.

OFTEN did not think that meant always ??

Though its noticable one or a few posters reporting ISPs saying take it or leave it this month .

Often is on balance of probability that they will. Just as likely that they won't.

    Re Broadband Switching

Good to read at other discussion that often you can arrange a specific date with the new provider to move across, thus allowing you to move on the day of expiry of your previous contract.

Will see how much the original provider wants to keep my custom; if at all.

I was 20 days away from the end of a Plusnet broadband and landline contract, I rang their retention's dept and was offered a price which was over the offer for new customers, new customers also had a £75 reward card and a new router free of charge.

I therefore started the switch to Vodafone as they had a deal for £26 and £100 Amazon card, I told them my contract finished on the 20th.

Vodafone told Plusnet they were taking over the contract from the 17th, Plusnet sent me an email hitting me with just over £25 early disconnection fee ? I rang Plusnet and asked what date could I switch without their ridiculous fee, they said the 20th

I told Vodafone I want the contract to start on the 20th, Vodafone contacted Plusnet and told them they were now taking over the contract from the 15th !! again another email from Plusnet.

I again contacted Vodafone and explained for the third time it must be the 20th, OK, No problem, and they then told Plusnet they were taking over the contract on the 18th

I cancelled the Vodafone contract and started to look at other providers, certainly not Talk Talk with previous experience of their customer service.

I gave Plusnet retention's another call, different person and he first offered £34 a month, and I had to sign up for 2 years, yet new customers are offered £27.99 a month !

I have been with Plusnet 2 years and they were not interested in any deal, even though I pointed out that Talk Talk are doing the 63mb broadband and phone line for £25, they were not interested in matching it

The journey continues, oh, and no contact from Plusnet.

Useful warning about how things go wrong; I'm with Plusnet!

    Thanks

Master socket depends upon the remit and time scale the OR has on the job sheet.

Only OR are allowed to move touch the rear of the Master Socket .
