I never said all ppi was mis-sold or a rip-off did I? I was talking solely about my situation where i was mis-sold but unfortunately both companies who did this were unregulated so I don't have a leg to stand on0

Just to give an update on my 'simply hearsay' ppi complaint.
RBS have found the loan account in question, have confirmed there was ppi on it and are currently investigating if it was mis-sold.
Maybe my complaint wasn't 'utterly weak' afterall!!!!0 -

The fact that they have now found your loan makes absolutely zip difference to the comments above that your complete is hearsay and weak - how are you going to prove you were told you had to have it?
The bank may find other failings, they may decide that the value of the PPI refund is below their auto-pay limit and repay you, they may reject, nothing has changedSam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:
People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

I've just had a refund from the bank of scotland for exactly the same query for loans dating back to 2001 and had a refund for £4000 so maybe it's not so weak afterall.
When i get a response from RBS I shall update this thread0 -

You may still be refunded, but it won't be because you complained that you were told you had to have it.0 -

Stating you were told you had to have the PPI would almost 99.999999% be rejected as you cannot prove that ever happened
However, the bank will have found other failings leading to the refund, as I said, wait and see what they come back with, the bank will almost certainly not tell you why they paid out if they doSam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:

I haven't posted to this thread previously but I will remark that your complaint is weak. That isn't to say that weak complaints do not often succeed. It is just that the odds are lower.
And the fact they have found you had PPI and now looking into your complaint does not change that fact it is weak. It is very rare for any complaint to succeed on that particular point. Although a good number of those go on to succeed on an unrelated point. Often something you have not actually raised or mentioned.
Sometimes weak complaint reasons succeed. Sometimes what appears to be nailed on complaint reasons fail. Therer are also the auto-payouts which can muddy the waters.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only.
