PPI help direct line

Hi I was wondering if anyone could help me. I had a personal loan with Direct line back in 2001 where I was advised I had to have PPI to take the loan out. I've had a look and I've got an old statement from direct line listing all the payments I made to them with the loan account number at the top.
Just wondering if this would be sufficient to make a ppi claim as I don't have any of the original loan documents being as it was so long ago
Thanks in advance

It's another pre-regulation complaint I'm afraid (like your earlier post).
Does the statement even show you having had PPI?
If not, I don't see you having any chance of advancing this..0 -
No it doesn't show it on the statement, just shows the monthly payments I was making though I know the ppi was on there.
How annoying I had no idea Direct Line were unregulated at this time too. That's bad luck isn't it.
Thanks anyway0 -
Two decades on, Direct Line will just say they have no record of any PPI. Regardless, they don't have to consider your complaint.
Regulation of insurance sales began in January 2005. Only the large banks were regulated already by an earlier body.0 -
Thanks for your replies you certainly know your stuff with this.
Just wondered, if these companies were unregulated I know I can't do anything in regards to persuing this through the FOS however is there any other route to take them down as they've still lied at the point of sale? For example maybe trading standards? Or would I just be wasting my time?
Thanks again0 -
Trading Standards have no jurisdiction.
You can (expensively) take them to court but, without any documentary evidence even of the PPI, how do you propose proceeding?
Your complaint is simply hearsay..0 -
Trading Standards won't be interested.
You'll need to put your hand in your pocket and go to court.0 -
That's why I was asking if there was anything else I would be able to do.
I have confirmation from Welcome I had ppi on my loan with them however as confirmed they were unregulated at the time too.
Looks like I'll just have to drop my case.
Just frustrating I've been ripped off and can't do anything about it0 -

As above, even if you had comprehensive evidence of the phantom PPI and it was post 2005, your "complaint" is utterly weak because it's simply hearsay..0 -
The reason...it completely slipped my mind to look in to it hence why there are thousands of others out there who will miss out on mis-sold ppi with the deadline fast approaching.
I wasn't asking for advice on what I should of done 20 years ago, only on the position I find myself in today0 -
Not all PPI was mis-sold, not all was a rip-off. You can still buy it today.
As mentioned earlier, waiting 20 years to complain about it, makes any complaint look extremely weak.0
