Exes car tax still coming out of my account.

As above, I'm still paying a monthly DD for my exes car I'd like to cancel. How do I go about doing this through the proper channels? If I just stop the DD and inform both her and the DVLA would that be sufficient? I don't really want to leave her driving an untaxed vehicle around unaware.

Yeah, exactly that.0

Cancelling the direct debit automatically informs the DVLA, you then just need to tell your ex what you have done and suggest she sets up a DD herself.Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear it in 2026.0

Or tell her what you intend to do :cool:0 -
the moment the DD is cancelled , the full yearly anoint must be paid ,
they frown upon cancelled or failed direct debits and in most cases cancel VED and refuse to set up new one
if you simply cancel the DD , then your ex is liable to have car towed and incur fines
not the easiest job to sort out , and in case of one of my bikes (£1.57 per mth) that I wanted to clear , I sorned (inline) bike and kept off road untill 1st of next mth and paid for the full 12 mths
I suggest you speak to your ex , get on the phone to DVLA - might need both of you (due to data protection) and ask to change DD instructions0 -
Tell her that you will be cancelling the DD the day after the next payment is taken. That will give her a month to sort it out. You can't be fairer than that.0

Thanks for your replies all, as I feared it's not just as simple as cancelling the DD, I don't want failed payments on my credit history and I also don't want to make the process any more difficult than it has to be for her! I was hoping there was some way I could do it without making contact as we didn't leave things on good terms but it appears not 0

Only payments that are part of a credit agreement recorded on your credit report will affect your credit history. I cannot see a DD set up with DVLA affecting your credit history. Not in the slightest. The fairest thing to do is as above let the next payment go through and then cancel, letting her know that that is your course of action.
Is the car in her name? Do you have any shared credit accounts?0 -
https://www.gov.uk/vehicle-tax-direct-debit/cancellingCancelling the Direct Debit for other reasons
If you cancel your Direct Debit with your bank or building society for any other reason, you must tax your vehicle again using either:
* a Direct Debit from an account with enough money in it
* another payment method, for example, by debit or credit card
Just your let ex know.0 -

Stop being such a !!!!!. Don't you think that your ex is fully aware that you are still paying the DD for her car. She is laughing with her friends at how gullible you are.
Get on to your bank and cancel the DD, tell your ex that the last payment you will make for the DD is x date.
Explain to the DVLA what you have done or plan to do. Speak directly to someone and send an email to confirm this.
If you know your exs address or parent's address, send a copy certified mail to her as well.
Let's hope from this unfortunate lesson you will grow a spine and not let people take advantage of you in the future.
There are lots of people out there like your ex whose primary goal in life is to be a user of others.0 -
If you didn't leave things on good terms then why on earth are you concerned about the implications for her. Grow a pair and cancel the DD.0
