PIP Review

Options
Good Afternoon

I received my first PIP award last year, two year award until April 2020.

My award letter stated they would contact me after 11 April 2019 for a review. I had assumed I would receive my review paperwork just after 11 April however to date nothing has arrived. Is this normal, can anyone advise on the timescale for receiving the review paperwork?

My conditions have deteriorated substantially in the last three months but rather than advising them I thought I would wait for my review.

Any advice would be very much appreciated.

There's some speculation that reviews are now 6 months before the award is due to end, however, i've not seen any confirmation of this. The only way you'll know for sure is to ring DWP and ask.
  • Thank you Poppy, if I don't receive anything in the next few weeks I'll ask my husband to call them. I'm a bit concerned the paperwork has gone astray in the post.

If that had happened then your PIP will stop if the form isn't returned within 1 month. As it's almost June then it's highly unlikely that they would have sent the review form. You should still ring to make sure.

If your husband isn't your appointee then you'll need to ring to go through security and then pass the phone to your husband.
  • Hi Poppy

Thanks for the info, that's a good point, I received my payment last week so it must be ok.

I am profoundly deaf, when I first applied I gave them permission to speak to my husband, hopefully that will still be ok.

I've seen that speculation.... and some people confirming they've been told 6 months.

My partner just spoke to DWP and they confirm that in January they changed it to 6 months.

Actually I contacted the DWP on Monday as my PIP runs out in November this year I was transferred to a Manager. I had actually contacted them in April as I believed I should have been contacted, I was told, during that April call to contact them again in July as it was too early to start a review!!

I was informed by this manager on Monday that I should have had a form sent out to me three months ago but no review had been set on my award, annoying to say the least, they are sending me a form immediately I was told, it has not arrived yet.

They also said they would put a message on my case, this was confirmed later during a second telephone call, stating that my forms should be forwarded as soon as possible to the assessors to hopefully? hurry up the reassessment.

To say I am annoyed is an understatement, I have all my medical notes ready for a few months, everything I needed to fill in my forms but now it will be a rush to get the face to face appointment and decision completed in the time left.

So yes it is six months now that they should? send out your reassessment form. hmmmphhh

I've phoned the DWP recently with the 12 or 6 month question as part of my work for a client recently, and was told 6 months over the phone (though she at first said 12, then changed it to 6 when looking at specific dates, but she did state 6 months specifically) so either it's variable or a new policy that not all staff are familiar with, which would back up the other viewpoints in this thread.

Agreed not all staff are familiar with this new policy which was implemented in January this year, rather disgusting if you ask me.

    Update....

After calling the DWP again and FINALLY speaking to someone who actually knew what they were doing here is an important piece of information.

If you were awarded PIP or your award was increased at appeal then you will not be getting a reassessment form sent out to you, you actually have to make a new claim for PIP as once a court has imposed a date of when PIP should be paid to they will not review your case.

I find this absolutely disgusting that I have made five telephone calls, twice speaking to a manager who both informed me they would send out forms, on calling today the very helpful officer said no those forms wont be sent to you as it is not a review but a new claim has to be made.

I am busily firing off emails to the DWP to make a complaint, after all

A complaint is defined as “any expression of dissatisfaction about the service provided which is not resolved by operational staff as normal business”.

What about the fact that you have been awarded Enhanced Care, Standard Mobility which was increased to Enhanced mobility at appeal, seems like even though you were awared certain rates after an assessment you will still not be contacted.

I think I have a genuine complaint about the service provided!!!

    I am fuming.

    Yet another update

Called DWP again, (bangs head) to ask who I have to address a complaint to and as it does state on their website that you need to call first to register the fact that you are making complaint, I was told that any award that has been either granted or increased at appeal will get letter sent out 14 weeks before PIP end date so maybe mine would have come out next week. So, when I called originally in April to tell them about a coc, not to get my award increased, but to start the ball rolling for a possible new claim and was told to call back in July when I was closer to the PIP end date as they could not do it yet was wrong.

If i knew what i now know I wold have pressed for a reassessment/new claim.

So. OP, your award will end in April I believe? so that means you will be contacted possibly late December, if you believe that your award can be sorted in that time then wait till then, otherwise call them a hell of a lot earlier and make a new claim with a change of circumstances.

Actually OP I do not know if your award was granted at appeal so a lot of this information will not be necessary to you if your award was given by the DWP so you should get a letter six months before PIP end date, sorry i'm angry, frustrated and disgusted at the problems I am encountering re my PIP and I am an ex DWP employee who probably has a bit more knowledge about the running of the damn place!!
