If I will buy glasses in the future, how do I choose an online store?

You live and learn. I spent £200 on specs, a colleague had al kst the same for 1/3 the price. High Street opticians have huge overheads to pay.
I thought about looking in some of the other shops but I knew that it would take a lot of time to go to each optician to look in their store and I didn't think I would get much of a saving after my price comparison.
I realise that I could have easily compared the price of my glasses from store to store without spending much time comparing prices if I would have looked online and put in the details of the glasses I require.
From now on I plan to look online for every new purchase to make myself aware of the product I am buying and check what the best deals are for the type of product I want to buy.
I could imagine that a lot of other people get swept into bad deals if they don't take a while out to have a think and look at what the competition offers.

I keep forgetting to put in question marks when asking questions. How do I edit the thread title and poll title?

I wear Rayban Wayfarers and was priced £538 in boots for a set with lens coatings. Got them online for about £150 fully coated.

Comfort yourself that at least the expensive glasses have a flat guaranteed correct pupillary distance & that you have not spent however little on glasses that are optically wrong for you

PD, or pupillary distance, refers to the distance in millimeters between the center of one pupil to the center of the other. Having a correct PD on your glasses prescription insures that you are looking through the ideal spot in your lenses.

There are a bunch of ways around measuring this correctly but it is not (& legally does not have to be) on your prescription & it makes a terrifying difference to the effective functioning (especially varifocals).

May not help this time but next sight test, have to leave shortly after the sight test rather than after half an hour gawking at frames, have a go at PD & then get something at near disposable prices online, If after a fortnight they're fine & you're happy, upgrade the spec?

Very true, PD is very important for making sure that the lenses suit the individual.
I have seen that there is an app that can measure it but I realise that an in store measurement may be more accurate.
What are my rights regarding the returns of glasses? Are they personalised goods and if so, can they be returned?
I had experienced blurred vision due to my glasses from vision express having the wrong optical center, I went to vision express and they are agreeing to replace the lenses for free.
The optical center seems quite high on my lenses and I don't know if I could adjust this to the right place if I will ever buy my glasses online.

I can't understand how the prices in store can be that much more expensive despite all the other costs stores have to pay.

I don't wear glasses but I imagine it's the same as buying anything else, you can (almost always) get it cheaper online.
But that doesn't always mean you should.
    You don't get personalised help.
You don't get to try things out beforehand.
If something goes wrong it is trickier to sort out.

^^ this is the reason we got OH glasses from the high street. In the event there were issues with the lenses, it actually required going in F2F while they tested the lenses and we agreed course of action.
Usually I'm quite happy to try and get something cheaper online (clothes generally being the exception) but I'd rather pay more for something as important as vision and deal in a bricks and mortar store, same as I'd rather see an actual GP than self diagnose and buy drugs off the Internet if that were an option.
