Manager is completely incompetent

This manager is clearly designed to be away from others. But they're simultaneously connected to power. Despite being alone, they're never alone. And none of their orders seem like those which they've thought themselves.
Whatever you're on, can I have some? All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -

Well it took until the middle of page 2 to invoke G O D W I N ' S L A W I was holding out for another few pages until you went there.milkand1sugar wrote: »
Oh dear, I'm holding out until you say anything sensible. But I'm afraid it could be a very long time!
Nobody seems to have said it but you seem like a nightmare of an employee and perhaps there's a reason why you're there looking up at the "cream" who have been promoted "way beyond their abilities".
You seem to have a sense of entitlement that I can't imagine is going to go over well out there in the real world.
Here's something sensible:

This manager is separated from the rest, even the rest of other management. They exist in some sort of pre-designed "bubble". They exit it only to shout and complain at others. They are invulnerable to any kind of counter-suggestions. Their mere presence is highly disruptive even if they're being nice.
Without defined boundaries, and with such an unstable personality, they cause chaos. Everyone dreads their appearance. Their perspective is "living for the moment" and they hate learning. No one like that has got around by competence. It's certain that another factor is involved.
Our instincts tell us they are not here for reasons which most of us would have, such as ability or reason, and we suspect they could potentially be illegal. My suspicion is drugs (their brain seems completely fried), illicit relationships (they don't appear to have any moral limits), and blackmailing or some kind of subterfuge. They're definitely in the "thug" category of psychology and get off over causing others to fear them.ReadingTim wrote: »I think it's sour grapes, but whatever it is, it makes the OP very bitter...Nobody seems to have said it but you seem like a nightmare of an employee and perhaps there's a reason why you're there looking up at the "cream" who have been promoted "way beyond their abilities".Here's something sensible:

Jeez, is this thread still going? I suspect many of us have had less than competent managers, but I bet we didn't spend hours on-line whingeing about them.
The more the OP goes on the more it looks like that they are the problem.0 -

I was going to agree with you (I read it four times and could make no sense of it). But then I got scared when I read #65 and realised that in the eyes of the OP we are really stupid people - even stupider than their middle managers.
The irony is I was a NHS manager and used to write guff like that for a living. Funny thing is, no-one knew what I did and nobody knew how I got the job - especially those who appointed me!0 -

OP - I used to challenge management above me frequently. When we merged with another trust I was one of the first to be dispensed with. Surprisingly (or not surprisingly according to my colleagues) the trust could find no suitable alternative employment for me - but then nobody knew what I did and I wasn't telling...
I'm happy to know that my former employer is now one of the worst performing trusts in the country.
Get a new job and revel in that schadenfreude as your old employer goes down the tube.0 -

There seems to be a bit or a superiority complex emerging, too, in putting down others’ intelligence when someone points out the strange rambling writing.
I found it difficult at times after finishing a very good degree to work for people who were not great at what they did but I still learned what I could from them and worked to move on to better jobs, even changing career to work with better people.
What I didn’t do was to whine like the OP.0 -

Reminds me of my first real job for a company(world leaders in their field) that was embracing the is new thing computer technologies and employed a lot of people in the main computer offices on a lot of projects.
One of the successful middle/project managers summed up their success.
Surround yourself with smart people and you will be successful.
They would make sure that of the 100s of engineers the smart ones would get migrated to their projects and would build balanced teams that could get the job done.
Another thing I learnt during that era was you don't need all your people to be the smartest available, for some tasks you need reliable.
Critical that you also learn from experience, not just your own but others.0
