Les you'll be amazed how often (and how quickly) it gets invoked on some threads and posts. Obviously facebook is prime location for such communications breakdowns. I somehow see MSE as above all that normally.

    That's if you're creating a milkshake. What if you're making a broth?
    Sounds like ASD to me
It's true that they have shown examples of malice and sometimes to me personally. But they have never been specifically violent and people are essentially individuals who need to be treated as such.
if it keeps happening the the blame is squarely at you and your managers for not being clear in advance what it is that needs doing and how it should be done.
So why do all they apologise to us afterwards for the confusion and admit it's not our fault? And then everyone agrees such in the end? If they as an individual don't take the idea OF a supply chain seriously there's not much we can do is there.

There's also the reality about things actually needing to get done. It's embarrassing because other departments or even sometimes other companies are getting involved wanting answers about prior arrangements and this and that. If you go to this particular manager for help, you can't even work out what they're saying because their English is so bad, and English is their first and only language.

My expectation for corporate process is fairly minimal at this stage, you do what you can do. But it's not on to have all the problems trickle down to people who aren't paid to take on the scale and complexity of those challenges. We end up having to unravel things ourselves and generally compensating to the point where we have to take management of the situation. They get the management pay, we get the management job. Sounds fair?

Oh dear, I'm holding out until you say anything sensible. But I'm afraid it could be a very long time!

Googling 'the peter principle' might help, although if said individual is so bad yet still above you in the food chain, then you might want to have a think about your own abilities too...
Thanks, that might be worth a read. I have no doubt about my own abilities however; if anything I owe this person a lot for restoring my beliefs in them. That's not in a bad way either. They've helped me in some ways too - in as much as it helped them to succeed. Yet they do not appear to be here for legitimate reasons. That's really clear now.

ASD is Autistic Spectrum Disorder, nothing to do with malice.

Sorry, thought ASD translated to Antisocial personality Disorder, this is known to be for people who are particularly violent/destructive against others. They're certainly not showing the classic symptoms of being withdrawn or difficulty with communicating for autism. I'm not a medical professional so would not judge or believe anyway.

In Engineering there's a history, of promoting really clever people, (somme of whome are probably Borderline Aspergers) into management because they were were really effective technically, and because reward comes from management and not Technical ability, you find people driving themselves towards jobs they are most unsuited to.

I myself, twice at two different companies, got myself promoted into firstly a team leader with 7 engineers under my wing. I was useless. I nearly had a breakdown.

7 years later I was working somewhere else and my Engineering output was saving the company lots of money (I was fixing massive warranty costs). They promoted me. I crashed and burned.

The problem though is that being able to work alone and achieve stuff that nobody else can, does not pay.

Luckily I spoke with HR about my mental health and I was moved sideways and did not have a pay cut (although it impacted my next pay rise - 0% that year)

A learning factor in my observation is that work is deterred when you're not allowed to move as an organism. You have to allow movement and ideas to flow. Putting somewhere in the space of segregation would normally considered an act of punishment.

This manager is clearly designed to be away from others. But they're simultaneously connected to power. Despite being alone, they're never alone. And none of their orders seem like those which they've thought themselves.
