Lane hogging has become epidemic

I play a game called orbiting.
Overtake in third lane, go back to first then slow down to be overtaken and repeat. See how many times you can go round them before either you get bored or they move over. My record is 11 (i got bored).
You have my sympathies, last time i went to london i noticed it did seem particularly bad round there with middle lane drivers.
I'd say the person driving at a constant speed in the second lane is a better and more responsible driver than you then; idiot!0 -

It depends what you consider responsible.
Theres no compulsion from the highway code or driving laws to drive at a constant speed. There is however laws designed to prevent lane hogging.
Again depends what you consider better. Id point out that driving within the laws makes you a better driver than someone who does not.0 -
I agree with the comments about lane-hogging although I don't agree with undertaking. I drive a lot on 2 lane DC/Mways. What really annoys me is when I'm in the outside lane in a line of traffic that is moving faster than the inside lane (i.e. we are all overtaking), keeping a safe distance from the car in front then some !!!!!! either gets really close behind me or undertakes and cuts in front. It's almost always a large SUV or a van with three high-viz wearing blokes in the front.0

The other annoying behaviour is on a dual carriageway where someone pulls in front of you on the outside lane of a 2 lane DC and drives slowly with their right indicator on because they are turning right at a roundabout in 2 miles. Usually some old curmudgeon driving a polo or similar. He is also the one that drives 40mph everywhere regardless of the actual speed limit or road conditions.0

Continually circling someone at fast speeds is likely to stress them out and lead to an accident. It is not your job to be an unpaid policeman attempting to point out that they could move over by doing repeated overtaking and slowing down.0 -
This is bad, however...… there are lots of roads whereby the left lane either departs and turns off, or joins and if you don't want to turn off you are continually changing lanes to avoid it - ie sitting in the middle lane. Its a mixture of bad driving and bad road design.0

Yep you win this argument by providing completely made up assertions.....
Did you not think about the cause effect aspect of what youre saying.... surely making someone drive across 3 lanes to overtake to go back across 3 lanes to drive in the correct lane is going to stress people out and lead to an accident.
For what its worth i dont police, people can do whatever they want, they should expect the same from me.0 -
With 4 lanes, lane 1 is usually the turn off lane and you will get stuck behind a lorry and have to slow down.
This is all shades of wrong. You drive in the left most available lane that is clear for your speed. If you don't then you are wrong.
If a lane is a filter lane then fine. But if you avoid the left hand lane "in case you encounter a slow moving vehicle" then you are wrong.0 -
There's a section of the M8 that has 5 lanes. If I join it at that section I always move to the middle lane (lane 3) as soon as possible. Why? Because within a mile or so lanes 1 and 2 turn off to join the M80, and there's always traffic wanting to take that junction, so I "get out of the way" as soon as I can to avoid getting stuck taking the wrong junction.

In the same way that two negatives make a positive, two wrongs do make a right
I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....
