speed camera van in SHUT LAYBY

Hello any help or advice will be appreciated.

I have been caught speeding by a mobile van. The van was parked in a closed layby on a A road. When i say closed i mean completely traffic coned both entrance and exit with signs saying closed etc.

The points and fine is quite hefty so I am wondering if they have a case to answer?

    No.
And even if they did, it wouldn't affect the minor detail that you are bang to rights.

So what speed were you doing for the points and fine to be "quite hefty", rather than a 3pt/£100 fixed penalty?

Why should they? Sounds like the lay by was closed to normal traffic perhaps because of road repairs in the vicinity but I don't see why it has to apply to the police. I fear this won't fly as a reason not to pay the fine and get the points.

Seriously? You're clutching at straws. What next? The tread depth on one of the van's tyres was below the legal limit?

Put on your big boy pants and take it like a man - you drove like an idiot and got caught.
Sometimes we do stupid things, part of being a grown up (perhaps?) is taking the rap for your mistakes.

I find that not speeding drastically reduces the chance of being caught - I'm going to say you'd have to be driving like a bit of a pleb to get a 'hefty' dose of magic points and wallet thinning, so my money saving advice is leave home 5 minutes earlier and still arrive at the same time you would have. :)

Before the high and mighty crew come onto the post, yes I do speed occasionally - but I'm not going to try and use a line of cones as an excuse if and when I do get caught. I'll take it like a man and hold my hands up rather than whinging online.

The lay by was probably closed for the van. Won’t be able to get any pictures if some one park in front of it if cars keep driving in front of it to use the lay-by.

A good answer, as this 'cool' trend of blocking police vans with an open boot / bonnet does still seem to happen.
Quite amusing that when the police find a way to stop it, people start clutching at straws!

Yes, great idea. Your two year old child is desperate for the toilet so you think you'll stop in the layby for him. But no! You can't. There's a revenue camera van there and the layby has been coned off. Laybys are not there for revenue cameras. They are there to allow motorists to stop for whatever genuine reason they have.

You wouldn't think so, but a lay-by in the village where I live, and used regularly by the camera van, now has an official sign . . .

What evidence do you base that assumption on?

Yes, I've seen one of those - Bishop Burton near Hull. They should get out an do some real policing, and stop belly-aching about how they need extra funds.
