I have spent the last 2 months switching to HSBC. What a disaster. What an utterly disorganised bank. Information has come in over the last 2 months in dribs and drabs. They now have my money but I can't access it. When I phone for HELP no one can (or will) help because they can't get me through security. Why ? Seemingly because they have my date of birth recorded incorrectly
What an absolute shambles. Unsurprisingly if I had known I would never have made the switch. DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT IT.
I agree that their service isn't stellar but in my experience I found my local branch staff very helpful when I had issues getting the account up and running. Go in with your card and some ID and they should be able to help you out and reset your incorrect details. Even if your local branch isn't near you, it's still probably less faff than trying to get it sorted over the phone.
  • Applied online. Asked to call to make an appointment at the end of the application process.

Went to appointment the next day. Account opened within an hour with internet banking and access to the app.

Card arrived two days later. PIN arrived the following day.

Switch completed on the agreed date.
  • Can you pay in the 1750 per month and then immediately withdraw it again? And can you do it in chunks ie 500+500+250?
    Thanks 😊

Only comment I'd make is to make all the payments different amounts. Sometimes if you repeat a transaction it'll assume it's a user error and ask you to wait an hour to repeat the transaction.

I recently switched a Natwest account into HSBC, the account was opened quickly, the swicth went through about two weeks later without a hitch and apart from the masses of paperwork that fall onto your doormat I thought everything was going OK. Not all is plain sailing however... Despite completing and returning my security form, that the accompanying letter said would be processed within 6 working days and my security number sent to me, four weeks ago, I still have no such number and so cannot setup online (or app) banking. On calling HSBC yesterday all they could tell me was that a letter containing the number had been sent 'recently'. I have no idea how recently, whether it's lost, how to wait to receive it before I call them again to complain that I still don't have it. So I too have no access to the account, other than using the debit card at an ATM.

Of course I got the "If it's convenient, you can always pop into a branch with ID and they can help you". Well it's not convenient, and no other bank has ever seemed this imcompetent (and I've dealt with a few). I can't see the account remaining open for long.

I was in the same position as you. I applied for the account on 2 Feb. I returned the security forms promptly and expected the security number to arrive as promised in 6 working days.

Nearly 3 weeks later, no security number and although I had yet to pay in £1750 to meet the criteria, I was not prepared to pay any money into an account that I didn't have access to. I telephoned HSBC and was told the security number was on it's way to me, they wouldn't confirm the date it was posted, but that I was still in the time frame to receive it.

I decided to call them again a couple of days later, as it states an agent can set up a security number for you, but was told this time the date the letter had been posted and the date I was expected to receive it, (last Thursday), it actually arrived on Tuesday this week. I called in the branch on Monday to get a "secure key", as I didn't want to use the mobile method to access the account, and finally managed to gain access on Thursday.

It dawned on me that my switch had not taken place within the 30 days, despite my request, but I have been told that it is due to a backlog in the back office and all incentives are protected, we shall see.

I would pin them down to telling you when the security number was posted. Oh and when you get it, be prepared to note down lots of passwords and answers to security questions!
This site has saved me a fortune :money: ...it's also cost me a fortune!

Having contacted the HSBC Twitter team, they told me that the latest I would receive my letter was today, Tuesday. Still no sign of it. They did give me a number to call if it still hadn't turned up and someone would be able to help set up the security info, but yet again on calling that number they can't (or won't) help, I can go into a branch or sit and wait for the letter.

As I can't get any sense out of HSBC - I've just had one operator tell me it can take 30 days to receive the security pack. I did ask if he was joking, he said quite empatically, "no". Last week the operator said they wouldn't tell me the date (data breach), the one today says he can't see the date it was sent, but is quite convinced it's still within the timeframe that I could receive it.

Anyway, based on that I've just intiated a switch of gthat acount into my Lloyds account, which should complete on 19th.

I'll never bother HSBC again, and I hope they don't ever bother contacting me!
