Hi,
i work in Manchester city centre and can echo some of the things already said... i rented a flat in Eccles for 4 years before buying and i LOVED it. I did drive though so unsure of public transport. Price wise, you can get a very lovely terraced in barton (part of eccles) and SOME of peel green but more the ex council side. I'd stay away from Winton.
I'm now in the process of moving from Walkden (its pretty pricey here) to Leigh, its a bit further out (still greater manchester though) and has the V1/V2/V4 buses in and out of manchester. I'm originally from Leigh so know areas well but just paid £112K for a decent 3 bed semi in a decent area. Well worth looking at!
Ooh that's interesting, the houses look as if they'd be really spacious. Hopefully there will be something in my price range soon. What made you leave Eccles? Hmm, how would I know which is ex council.
Yeah I've heard about Walkden being expensive. That could be interesting I've seen the vantage buses but didn't realise they all went to Leigh. I will have a look anyway see if there's anything I like.0 -

I have a friend who lives in Leigh, moved to the new builds. Not bad I hear but the drive in is hellish if you drive into Manchester.0 -
This could be a good shout, but I am not sure it is within budget?
My dad lives in Peel Green and has done for 20 years and never had any issues.
Maybe not in the near future, but currently there's plenty available within the OP's budget. My cousin just bought near Patricroft station, which is literally 30 seconds from being in Monton. He paid £100k for a 2 up, 2 down terraced house. For a single person or couple with no kids, they're decent enough size.0 -

Haha I remember the seals outside Somerfields. Urmston is becoming a lot more up market these days, hence the price...although it never really was cheap.0 -
I think Levenshulme or Fallowfield would be your best bet, frequent buses or in the case of Lev, buses or trains into town, and in particular Lev is getting a bit fancier - I have lost count of the amount of times I have heard people saying 'it's the new Chorlton' so house prices are on a good upward trajectory at the mo.0

Ooh this is good! There isn't anything within that price range atm from the looks of it but I will definitely be keeping my eye out. 2 up 2 down is all I need really0 -

Will be interesting to see if the boat has been missed here or not.
I did a Mortgage for someone there in 2016 (purchase price of £115k), house values look to be closer to £150-160k now), it looks like the biggest increase has been in the last 12-18 month.I am a Mortgage AdviserYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as a mortgage adviser, so you need to take my word for it. The 2nd link is 95% the same as the property I'm currently in. £100k is honestly a bargain for what it is. The rooms are extremely spacious. Obviously that one needs some interior love...0 -
Thanks everyone for your suggestions so far.
Due to a change of circumstances I am now even more confused about where to look for houses.
I have been offered a promotion meaning my total budget is now around £140-145k.
It is making me wonder whether it is worth looking for a 3 bed house thinking more long term in the hope of it being more of a longer term/forever home so I don't have to worry about moving and the associated fees (I know things may change) also making me wonder about areas that may be better now I have a higher budget.
I have viewed one house recently but not 100% sold on the house itself or the area.
If anyone has any other suggestions or experiences based it would be very helpful. I know I don't need a 3 bed house but it may be more convenient in the long run. I am currently learning to drive but I don't enjoy it at all so would prefer somewhere with good transport links.0
