Greater Manchester is massive, surely where you work has a massive influence on where you want to live.

Unless I have missed something then you don't mention where you would want to commute to. No point living in Altrincham to work in Oldham (spending 3 hours a day commuting) because the M60 is terrible. Unless you work different hours and traffic isn't an issue.

120k is nothing in certain parts of Greater Manchester and a lot in others, each place has good and bad areas, places within places have good/ bad areas. Then my version of a good area and yours will also be different, as would everyone else's version of a good area.

I'd be looking at Eccles on your budget.

Try and get as close to Monton as you can. A bonus for Eccles is the tram that would take you straight into Manchester. You would be quite close to the Trafford centre for shopping if that's your thing.

This could be a good shout, but I am not sure it is within budget?
My dad lives in Peel Green and has done for 20 years and never had any issues.

Thank you, that's really good to know :)

Hadfield & Glossop line - comes in through Gorton, Ashburys and into Picc platform 1 or 2. I used to get it regularly from Gorton.

Interesting, T. That's where I'm from. Born in Urmston (Cottage) and brought up in Peel Green.

    Hi,

i work in Manchester city centre and can echo some of the things already said... i rented a flat in Eccles for 4 years before buying and i LOVED it. I did drive though so unsure of public transport. Price wise, you can get a very lovely terraced in barton (part of eccles) and SOME of peel green but more the ex council side. I'd stay away from Winton.

I'm now in the process of moving from Walkden (its pretty pricey here) to Leigh, its a bit further out (still greater manchester though) and has the V1/V2/V4 buses in and out of manchester. I'm originally from Leigh so know areas well but just paid £112K for a decent 3 bed semi in a decent area. Well worth looking at!
