Afternoon all
lazyish day today - have been up to mr t's for baking stuff as that was the plan for dd and me today - came back with loads of redoosed (that's what dd calls it) tuna for me and some veggie things for dd. We are supposed to be clearing the freezer for xmas but can't resist a bargain. Sat and watched an old b and w film, the gentle sex, on film 4 which was pretty much propaganda to persuade women to join the war effort I think but very enjoyable.
11yo dd heard on the news that climate change is happening much faster than we feared and wants us to devote our lives to saving the planet - my life is pretty much devoted to knitting socks between now and xmas so I have told her that the planet will have to wait to soem extent until the new year but that after that I will gladly join her. i'm not sure what it will involve but she wants me to find out if there are any conservation groups near here.
Right - I am being summonsed to start the bakingI'm going to feed our children non-organic food and with the money saved take them to the zoo - half man half biscuit 20080 -
hello all!
not long got back from my weekend away in Telford with DH. Managed to get quite a lot of christmas shopping and got to hear UB40 rehearsing:T
Shame my 2 DSs had to let me down. Mum found DS2(15) with 2 part smoked ciggies in his room and DS1(nearly 18) went out and didn't come home, leaving his brother on his own despite being asked not to:mad: apart from that we had a great weekend:j
havent read the thread yet so hope you are all ok.
Ellie :hello:
catch you all later xxxDo what you love :happyhear0 -
Hiya PP and twink - thanks for the hugs :A
The Thai Chicken Curry wasn't totally OS I'm afraid, in that it used curry paste out of a jar. In fact, the recipe is the one from the jar label. Anyway it was something like this (to serve 4 ish):
800g chicken, chopped
1 large onion, chopped
1 small green pepper, chopped
1 tbsp thai green curry paste
1 tin coconut milk
Fry the onion and pepper in some cooking oil in a large pan for 5 mins; add the curry paste and stir in well; add the chicken and fry till it's sealed off; add the coconut milk and bring the pan to the boil. Then transfer into a casserole dish and cook in a low oven for 1 hour. (I reckon it should work well using a slow-cooker instead of the oven, but haven't tried). It's yum. IMHO it might work best with chicken thigh meat, though I've been using breast as that's what I had yellow stickered in the freezer
I've made LOADS of this in the past few weeks as the jar of curry paste had to be finished within four weeks of openingHowever it is a highly useful recipe for using up green peppers which I always seem to have left over when I make nice things out of red and yellow ones
Anyway, I've just been out (in the rain ) to the recycling bins and then to Tesco where I picked up some more reduced chicken breasts for the freezer :j I also ended up with my trolley massively overloaded because Tesco've got a "25% off all wine if you buy 6 or more" deal on ATM - I meant to buy only 6 bottles, but then having picked 6 out I discovered that my favourite cheap bubbly (Codorniu Cava) was on a half price deal, £4.99 a bottle, ending today  which obviously with the 25% discount as well is £3.75 a bottle! Couldn't turn that opportunity down - especially given that a few days ago I seemed to get talked into hosting a New Year's Eve party
And having picked up 3 punnets of interesting mushrooms - all yellow-stickered - and thinking "Oh good, I'll make a batch of risotto", I found the risotto rice was out of stock  Why DO supermarkets ALWAYS seem to run out of it? I actually considered going to Asda (a ten minute walk down the road from Tesco) but sod's law says that (a) my trolley would have broken as it was so overloaded, and (b) I'd get there and find that Asda didn't have any either  And it's now after 5pm and everything will be shut, so I think I'll pop out to the local shop, which might sell it - you never know...

Afternoon all, including the Lurkers!
Cold and damp here to-day, didn't sleep well last night so stayed in bed until after 10...Oh did bring me breakfast in bed so that was nice.
Salmon, peas and spuds for dinner...lazy so that takes very little time.
Still need a few things for Christmas, have pudding, cake and stuffing made and am going to make mince pies with the filo pastry that needs taking out of the freezer. Am going to get a frozen turkey, not too big...we are all going to my brother's for Christmas dinner but will cook mine on 22nd or 23rd, as DD2 loves turkey and will be seven and a half months pregnant then I can't let it just be one day that she has it.
Still knitting mad ( I can understand how you feel Stefjb) as I have several things to finish over the next few weeks.
Washed all my sweaters to-day, will have to dry them inside as they would end up on N7 if I hung them out!
Hugs to all who need or want them...Hester, you are a saint!
Enjoy the rest of your weekend

Hi Everyone
A little late today due to friends staying overnight, we hadn't seen them since September due to being away and usually see each other at least monthly, so when we rang up and said we're home shall we get together, they came over due to their CH system being poorly. These are the friends we go 'vanning with are we are good a throwing things together and making meals in no time from shared fridges, so by the time they arrived, I had a sausage casserole simmering in the SC, followed by Frozen Black Forest Fruits (Mr T) thawed into blackcurrent SF Jelly. Nothing at all left, which I think says it all:A . Opened a bottle of Barolo (Italian red) wine, mine and DH's favourite, but at £10 a bottle its a treat. This one came from France though so was a less.
((((hugs)))) Mrs_Mix now you have the damp to go with the cold, you too Kyle & JamieD with insufficient sleep, any chance DH will take over later so you can get a nap? Hope DS2 is better Cheerfulness. Smashing Blouse you have my sympathies with the foot problems, been there for far too long now! http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u196/donny_gal/cast.jpg That was the right leg, now problems with the tendon on the left, ultrasound revealled it was the Plantar Fasciitis. Insoles and exercise from Podiatory Clinic here, but ended up with injections in Spain, starting to get some feeling back in little two after 5 months! AnnieBL hope the roof repairs aren't too expensive, and they haven't caused too much damage. If there is damage then your household insurance should cover it (though not the fix). Pen-Pin
hope the dossing has had a good effect. H-H think you need to reinforce some basic ground rules, you are being walked over! Catowen/Taplady (((HUGS))) we can all be thoughtless, I think we need to get to the stage of being parents before our own are really appreciated. Ellie - have I upset you, or has my absence made me invisible (lol)? Aussie - think you started something with the dishclothes, someones asking about them on the OS thread. Kune - its coming up to Summer in NZ, so bet you'd love to be back. I've made a NZ Messenger friend via family history research, shes great fun. Amie/DLB/CC/CM/RZL/Pink/Twink/HJ/Pen-Pen/Mrs Mc/Smokey/Snowy and everyone else (sorry if I forgot you!) :hello: :hello:
Me - I'm just feeling good, don't know why, but not knocking it!
Take care

Donny-gal - Hope yours gets sorted soon. I have had 9 weeks of pain, which I have been complaining about since I cut it, before they even decided to look at it:eek:
Well the steam generating iron is briiliant:T What would have taken me about an hour and a half to iron, took me 40 minutes.0 -

I daren't even start saying here what I think of the lack of interest/care from the "Health Professionals" here, I would be banned:mad: . After seeing a consultant in Spain who immediately ordered a MRI scan on my knee, which I have been trying to get sorted here since February!, when given the results I brought my foot into the equation with sheer frustration, and he examined it and agreed with the diagnosis, so I said, but surely there should be some improvement after 5 months. The look he gave me said it all, and arranged the injections immediately.

There is a Hinari Steam Generator in next weeks Makro for £29.99 +VAT, has anyone had one of these, or the Philips one which is £79.99 +vat down £20 supposedly ssp £149.99 (not checked web yet)

Same here, and is settling quite thick. If too bad I think I will give work a miss, as being on crutches could be a potential health and safety issue.0
