Home Insurance Company Attempting to Swindle Me

This is an exceptionally naive view.Appearances, as they say, can be deceptive.
When you check the terms and conditions and find out that you have signed up to auto-renew you'll know why they tried to take payment. No fraud involved.
Do you really think that a company operating in an industry as tightly regulated as insurance could wilfully commit fraud?0 -

The FOS have issued guidance on renewal notices and their expectations. It must be in the main part of the letter as to what happens next. i.e. if you want to cancel, do you need to tell them. Most firms comply with regulatory requirements and what the FOS expect.
So, the comments about swindling are incorrect. it is a failure by the OP to read the documentation sent at renewal. However, as already mentioned, they will usually waive it if there is evidence of other insurance in existence from the same date.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA).
