So contrary to what the OP was advised by Vodafone in post 5 they should ask for the PAC 30 days before the end of the contract and ensure the code is used on the day the contract ends?

In effect it is impossible to transfer on the day the contract ends unless the new provider agrees to it. PAC's are only valid for 30 days aren't they?
We don't know exactly what the OP asked and what the Vodafone rep's exact reply was, but it appears to be contrary to the reality, which is clearly given in post no. 6.

Using the PAC two or three days before its 30-day expiry is better than waiting until the last day, and take into account that the number transfer will only go through on a working day.

It's too late for the OP to end their contact and charges on the last day of the minimum contract period, and they will now have to pay for the following month or part thereof.

Thank you all so much for your replies! It's so frustrating to call a provider and be given an incorrect answer....

When I called, I asked specifically whether I would have to pay anything beyond the original contract duration if I did as advised and called on the last day of the contract, got PAC, and used it on the same day. The rep said I would only pay for the portion of the month on which I still used their service, meaning until the switch happened. I asked to explain what that meant and he said it would be a day or two, however long it took for the new provider to execute the porting.

What should I do now then? Call them again and ask for PAC, to be used on day 25 from receiving it? Is there any point in bringing up the previous conversation to start the notice a few days ago?

I don't think it's been mentioned but if your phone is locked to Vodafone then you'll need to ask for a NUC from Vodafone (Network Unlock Code) so that it can be used on EE (or anyone else).

Edit: There's an online form for requesting it and a guide to how to apply it.

Thank you for this, I actually broke my Vodafone locked phone and bought a SIM free one in anticipation of moving away from them :D So thankfully this is one problem I don't have!
