Moving from contract to sim only
Hello,
I currently have a 24 month phone contract with Vodafone, which is ending 30 May. I'd like to move to a SIM only deal on EE (my husband is with them and we want to take advantage of data sharing).
When do I need to let Vodafone know I won't be extending past the end of this contract? Do I have to give them notice?
Once I've left Vodafone, will EE need to run a credit check for a SIM free deal? We are in the process of buying a house and would like to avoid that if possible, due to the mortgage application going in.
Thanks in advance!

I'm in the same position with my Vodafone contract ending in June. I will go for a sim only deal as upgrade prices are just stupidly expensive double what I'm paying for phones that are no better than what I have.
I will contact vodafone as least a week before contract end to ask for a pac code or move to one of their sim deals.
I wouldn't have thought that a credit check for a mobile deal would have any detrimental effect on a mortgage deal.::A0 -
The norm is that you need to give 30 days notice I think.
Not sure about the credit check but I would imagine that they won't need to do one.I don't think mobile phone companies do a credit check when you take out a contract as a general rule (could be wrong though)0 -
Giving 30 days notice is necessary to end a mobile contract, so your payments will extend into June if you give it now.
Ask for your PAC (port authorisation code) if you want to keep your number and move it to EE. It's valid for thirty days so you can use it a few days before the thirty if you want to make the most of your remaining Vodafone service, which terminates when the PAC is activated.
Credit check for the SIM only contract would only have very minimal effect on your credit history.Evolution, not revolution0 -
Ok, given the conflicting information here, I called Vodafone to check and they said I just need to call back on the day my contract finishes (to avoid early cancellation charge) and request a PAC. This will terminate my contract as soon as PAC is used and I don't need to give them any other notice besides.0

This information is wrong , requesting the PAC starts your 30 day notice so the best time to ask for it is 30 days before contract end and use it just before the PAC runs out.0
-
Also, the contract won't "finish" unless you either obtain and exercise the PAC within 30 days or give 30 days' notice to terminate it.0

So if I request PAC on the last day of my contract, give it to my new provider and they use it to transfer my number the next day or so, that is my contract with Vodafone finished/terminated?0 -

So contrary to what the OP was advised by Vodafone in post 5 they should ask for the PAC 30 days before the end of the contract and ensure the code is used on the day the contract ends?
In effect it is impossible to transfer on the day the contract ends unless the new provider agrees to it. PAC's are only valid for 30 days aren't they?0
