The bottom can soon fall out of markets. Ebay can be misleading when it comes to selling prices. Worth seeing what the sets have been realising through the auction houses. Much gets bought there then relisted on Ebay at inflated prices.
  • My Husband took a punt on investing in a couple of Lego sets, mainly smaller superhero sets but also the larger original TV series bat cave when it was on offer.
The latter is still available for around the retail price when it was released, if it never increases in price then he'll enjoy building it in future.
He also dabbles in toys and comics its amazing what you can pick up in pound shops or B&M and flip it at car boots or Ebay.
His main buyer once bought £600 of comics in a month!
But he only buys what either he or the children would like if it doesn't sell.

I remember how hard it was deciding to go 100% in with gold all those years ago. Me and Mrs.D. had more than one domestic on the issue I can tell you. In the end I just said "Yes Dear"
I still have horrific images of the children's faces etched in my memory from when we broke it to them that the  Lego was to be sent to the charity shop.
I'm choking up now, I need to self immolate..._

I'm fairly sure I read that 1980s/1990s Lego (my vintage) contains toxins beyond the current legal limits and so the charity shop can't sell it and schools/playgroups/nurseries can't accept it.

Found the story: no need to panic unduly.  https://www.nhs.uk/news/pregnancy-and-child/secondhand-toys-may-pose-toxic-threat-children/

Oh dear my 4 year old plays with 80s lego every day. I had to repurchase some of the bricks I chewed, broke or lost. He also plays with my old plastic Thundercats and MASK toys although he's started asking for ones I don't have now...

I don't want to hold too much Lego stock so it's time to lock in some gains on the new but retired sets. I will list a few on ebay next time they have a £1 max selling fee event.

So you are not only rebalancing your portfolio to maintain the target exposure to lego, but also optimizing the cheapest platform for trading lego!
How long before you rebalance your family, by selling a spare child? ;)

Nah, hold for a bit longer - we've likely not reached the bottom of that particular market yet; there'll be plenty of need for cheap labour by the end of all this which will push the price up. I imagine anyone selling family members now will regret it later, even if the ongoing costs to hold them are currently higher than normal...

My unopened Lego collection has lost all its value since lockdown.

Oh dear at least gold is less tempting unless all that gleeful rubbing at night eventually reduces the weight.
