Gosh, haven't posted for a while, I guess because things have just been plodding along.
The mortgage currently stands at £54,100. I would love to be in the 40s by the end of the year but that might be a little too ambitious. We shall see!
Work is actually ok for once, my new role certainly suits me better as it's more financial and organisational, which I'm good at. I did have to fix my PC at home last month to be able to continue streaming and get some new parts but that's sorted now and should last a while.
Savings are pretty poor at the moment with just £500 in the pot, but seeing as the interest rates are so rubbish it makes more sense to pay off the mortgage with any extra money. We are looking at going away at Christmas though as work has an obligatory shut down which we have to save holidays for so it seems a shame to waste them. My family is fine with this but BF has to put it to his family, and after not being able to make it due to lockdown last Christmas (although his mum blamed me for that and made this very vocal, I didn't realise I had so much power over the government!) I'm quite sure she'll kick up a fuss again!
Anyway, as I say we're just plodding along trying to get rid of this mortgage so we can then get out forever home. I just hope we can do it sooner rather than later because I feel I am starting to lose hope, but must stay positive! ❤
Mortgage Balance as of July 2025 £14,900.
Starting Mortgage Balance (June 2019) £72,000.

I'm glad work has finally taken a turn for the positive and you're enjoying it again.
Christmas is always tricky, perhaps you can get your new friend Boris to put in a good word for you? 😉🤣
Just curious, but why does your forever home need you to pay off your current mortgage?
Take care, G.If it's not adding up, compound it!6 -
We're quietly considering doing something different for Christmas this year (and also worrying about how it'll go down). That said, our different might involve inviting both families (including my divorced parents and Dad's fiancee - who gets on well with mum fortunately!) to our new house... it's just a thought at the moment though, and a fairly terrifying one at that! But if you want to go away, go for it - two things I've learnt recently are a) you can't please all of them, all of the time and b) if you try to, you'll never get to do what *you* want to do. Life is short, everything changes and sometimes the changes can be for the good!
I don't think you'll be alone in doing something different this Christmas - I think a lot of people will have realised that Christmas can be different and still good after last year. And there's always Zoom!Mortgage free 16/06/2023! £132,500 cleared in 11 years, 3 months and 7 days

I would love to go away for Christmas 😍! We don't do presents, I don't eat turkey, don't have any kids round and try to stay away from too much booze and chocs, so it's all a bit dull for me. However, I have a 0% chance of ever persuading BF to not host his family, so I can either spend it alone (tempting) or just smile and nod. Go for it, life's too short 😀!Mortgage start: £65,495 (March 2016)

We went our separate ways for our very first Christmas together (6 weeks into the relationship 😂) and after that vowed not to go to either family at Christmas again 😂 we went away the following year, and the year after that, and a couple of years after that - and then people stopped expecting us to go for Christmas and we just stay at home 😁 It's great 😁6

Thanks guys!
Vix you are a brave woman! I wish you all the best x
SC, if BF doesn't end up wanting to go away, do you want to come away with me and the dogs? 😂
Cheery, I envy you!
@Grogged We want to pay off the mortgage on this place so we can rent it out when we move to our forever home and have it as a source of income and then sell it to be an extra to our pensions. Also as pessimistic as this sounds, as a divorcee already, I want to keep it just in case things don't work out with BF and I have somewhere to go if I need to that's just in my name.
Gosh I sound all doom and gloom atm 😂Mortgage Balance as of July 2025 £14,900.

I am very indifferent about Christmas and also eating turkey, but DH likes to spend it with his parents and brother. We always host now as it feels too hard to go anywhere with very young kiddies and we have more space.
It’s not too bad tbh and is otherwise probably just be sitting around at home. This way I get fed some nice wine and a meal cooked for me.
If you want to do something else, then go for it and also don’t let your future plans consume you (like I regularly do 😬). Life is there to enjoy now, not in an unspecified time in the future.2025 decluttering: 3,984🌟🥉🌟💐🏅🏅🌟🥈🏅🌟🏅💐💎🌟🏅🏆🌟🏅

We'd host Xmas if we could, but the in-laws are too old to want to travel far and stay over.
So we (did) mostly go to theirs during the Xmas period.
Nothing says Xmas like watery peas and sprouts! 🤣
We steam our veg, they boil theirs till it's good and dead...If it's not adding up, compound it!5
