  • I'd agree with everyone above, if you are printing lots of colour a printer with individual tanks would be better..if you are just printing normal colour prints then a four colour printer will be fine, if you want to print photos i reckon your better with a 6 colour or even 9 colour as the more shades you have the better quality your photos. Separate colours may seem more expensive because you are buying more cartridges but they are cheaper than the 3 colour ones because you are only paying for the colour you need, so if they yellow tank ink runs out you just replace the yellow tank, on a 3 colour if the yellow runs out you have to replace the whole thing even if the other two colours are still full!!! Plus theres all the stuff about the printhead being on the cartridge, which is fine for an expensive printer baceause it makes it last longer, but for a cheap printer thats cheap to run t doesnt really make sense. I've found the same as above with Canon tanks too though, the cheapest ones have chip faffing so perhaps an Epson
  • Kodak 5100 All-in-One Inkjet Printer £49.99 at Argos (was £59.99).
    Cartridges: Black £6.99, 5 Colour £9.99, Twin Pack £15.99, Photopack £12.49 (1 x 5 Colour + 180 6" x 4" sheets Kodak Photo Paper = 7p print)
The running costs for Kodak were so low (Which?) I went and bought one. Permanant print head. Easy to set up and user friendly. Don't know what other peoples opinions are of Kodak but I'm delighted with it. Only downside - needed to buy a USB 2.0 cable then Argos reduced the price by £10.
  • :A I want to replace my Epson R360 printer and I have to agree with previous remarks that it is better to buy one with individual inks. My R360 is a good quality printer and I love the Epson CD printer. However, what drives me mad is that the printer stops dead in it's tracks when IT thinks a cartridge has run out! Even if I am in the middle of an A4 colour page I have to reprint when the cartridge has been replaced wasting more ink. Also, if it stops because IT thinks a cartridge has run out nothing works, you can't even access the card reader slots! ( I believe the same applies to Canon?) Looks like back to HP for me. I'm considering the HP 5460 as I don't need an all-in-one printer. Any useful comments?

i have just bought a canon ip4500 from pcworld £61
they did a price match plus 10% of the difference
i did have an epson r220 which has just packed up
only had it a couple of days but first impressions are good:D
Oops. I believe these printers use the CLI8 inks which have a history of faulty chips on them causing unrecognised ink tank faults. Printer is likely to be very good but if you get this problem at least you will know it's not the machine.

Try UKDVDR for great cheap cartridges. I have used them for a couple of years now without any problems. I bought 3 colour cartridges for my Epsom C46 at about £1.10 each, That is for the 3 colours!! Black are about 60P

    Hi All,

I'm hoping you can help. I am going to be setting up a home office and I'm going to need to buy a printer. Its only going to be used for letters, maps and the such like, so, probably only 20 copies a week. Can anyone recommend a printer that would suit?

    Thanks
  • Have you looked at laser? You can get lasers for ao reasonable price these days. OK, the toner is not that cheap, but it does not suffer from not being used for a while - we had an inkjet that we did not use for a month and we could not get it to print properly cos the cartridges had dried up near the head!
What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare
  • I want to be able just print off letters i write, things i search on the net and be able to print good photos. The problem i have with my HP Fseries printer is that the ink cartridges are small, dont last very long and are quite dear to buy.
Can anyone advise me on the best printer to buy that uses larger print cartridges and are cheap to buy.
  • My Epson Pixma D120 has two flshing amber lights indicating that it will no longer print due to having a saturated waste ink pad. It is only a year old and now requires to receive professional attention! The advice on the web is to throw it away as there doesn't weem to be a way of resetting the counter ourselves. This is something that Epson don't tell you about.

I am now left with unused cartridges and I am not sure what to buy as a replacement. Any ideas?
