Hi
I really need a new laptop. Both my old laptop and PC have died on me.
I know I want an i5 processor for the speed. I don't need fancy graphic cards. I would also like a laptop that has SSD.
Ideally, I don't want to go over £500 unless I really have to.
Any recommendations please?
Thanks
Terrysdelight

Get a second-hand one for half that price, upgrading the hard drive to an SSD - if this hasn't already been done...
Without more details of what precisely you want, it's hard to be more definite!0 -

Upped budget to £629 max.
Have found this nice Dell but wondered if I can get a similar spec with a different manufacturer and cheaper!

Office work, Microsoft Office, Surfing, Editing photos, playing music and possibly watching the odd film.
I don't know where else to buy a laptop - have been looking at some refurbished ones on Ebay but I am nervous about this method.0 -
Don't ignore John's advice!!!!
Lots of used/refurbished machines out there and, as has been posted before, you can get business standard used (fairly new) machines that are a lot better build standard than more expensive brand new plasticy consumer models from the likes of the usual edge of town outlets!
Also you have still not posted your requirement!
If you do not need mobility get a PC (desktop, tower etc) cheaper, upgradeable, better value, easier to get fixed if ever needed, better ergonomics (full sized keyboard, monitor in better position, more storage space (drives etc), more ports, better/bigger screens easier etc.
Some think they are old hat....but some of that is just fashion
Then maybe a laptop.....more mobile but they have their limitations and like for like a lot more expensive.
If you do not need the functionality of the above then, for greater ease of mobility consider a tablet...? Many users do nothing demanding on their computer and a budget or higher spec tablet is quite adequate!
....but it is really horses for courses...hence why you need to post your need. The use to which you will put it, how many hours a day will you use it, mobility, storage (lots of photos/music/videos ....),linking to tv/hifi/car audio, do you have special needs, business or pleasure,.... etc. etc.
You will get more sensible responses......0 -

Thanks - I will give that some thought. I do much prefer the PC - I have a Samsung all-in-one PC but its 5 years old and gone cranky on me. I loved it. I do now spend a couple of days a week away from home so that's why I was thinking of lap top, but you are so right about keyboard, posture etc etc.0 -
