Ladbrokes want to keep my money!

I can honestly say I've never had a bad experience with Ladbrokes and I have absolutely no connection to them.0

Unlike most I have some sympathy with OP's position. If they need KYC information they should get it before accepting first deposit (it's obvious why they don't) or at least make it necessary for new customer to acknowledge these specific terms before opening account.
At one time I had over 20 bookmaker accounts, I now have none because those bookmakers have either gone or got rid of me and I wouldn't trust any of the newer Internet ones.
To be fair, for me, Ladbrokes were one of the better ones to deal with though they may have got much worse.0 -

It is new. If it is not why have they allowed be to use there site all these years?
ID verification is not new - only age verification is.
ID verification for gambling (and other financial services such as paypal) has been around for decades. You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0 -

So how come they never required ID when I signed up?
I expect you could open an account right now with Ladbrokes without ID.
They only ever do checks when you want to withdraw oddly enough.0 -

Because afaik, it only kicks in when withdrawing funds. Google it. You shouldn't have any trouble finding examples because it happens so often.
As said, its to combat money laundering. So it makes perfect sense they'd allow deposits and not withdrawals - because genuine people can prove their identity to get the funds while those the regulations are designed to catch out will have ill-gotten gains removed from them. You keep using that word. If bookies didn’t keep laundered money and happily paid it back out they’d be complicit. If the money was laundered probably wouldn’t be yours either.0 -

Well it may have been around for decades but I can assure you I've opened tens of bookmakers accounts ( last was about 2008) and have never gone through ID verification (though of course they may have got details from credit agencies) required by many I have read about in recent years.0 -

I have had accounts with Ladbrokes and William Hill. I have only ever used them for bets on the Grand National or the Eurovision Song Contest. I have never been asked for proof of age or ID. The most recent win was this years GN where I won £80 but they paid me immediately without requesting any proof.
So I did some research on my William Hill account and found the following
“From May 7th, 2019, Gambling Regulations in relation to UK customers are changing and this affects how we must verify customer accounts. We therefore require some documentation in order for you to continue using William Hill products and services.
These changes impacts both existing and new customers.
Whilst we appreciate that you may have been a William Hill customer for a while now, the regulation stipulates that if we are unable to verify your account to the new requirements before May 7th, your account will be suspended, preventing you from accessing the site, and withdrawing or depositing funds.”
I think this makes the new rules, which have only been force for 5 days, very clear. I assume there something similar on thevLadbrojes site.0
