  • Hi p - we must have posted at the same time. Northern Rock loan - I'd be tempted to get a settlement figure on the basis that they might be desperate for the cash at the moment.

Re: the weight-loss, thanks for the thanks :)

  • I thought 'bathing the ferret' might be some local saying from round your parts :)

Spread betting - sorry, I misread your post. Yes, that will be quite a quest. I'm watching and waiting for KC to see how she gets on and then dive into doing lots of research to get up to speed. It is real gambling, so not really MSE/DFW mind...

I'm all for three of us going for matched betting and spread betting - we should share email addies tho, because the site's been down for a fair bit recently, and a day's delay is.... too much! At the moment I'm checking that I remember what NTR stands for, espec. cos of the Waterhouse thing - I've got so set in my ways looking at sterling/dollar and the Dow Jones, I've actually forgotten that kind of thing  its a bit basic! Back soon.

PS - I think pania's talking about using her free bet, so tho its not like matched betting, its like playing a free game of bingo. I think, I've not looked at free spreadbetting money before.

  • Hi Pania! I never posted on your first diary but was a major lurker - glad to hear you are feeling really positive about things hun!

Re. Northern Rock, I think that whatever would you give you the biggest psychological boost is the one to go for - if it were me, I would clear NR first so that you will be cheered by the fact the biggie has gone and really go for hammering the rest with the spare cash it frees up. Just my thoughts though ;)

A point re. the phone, I too ring a lot of 0845 numbers and they hike my bill up unbelievably. I don't know if this helps, but I went onto www.saynoto0870.com and typed in the most frequently dialled 0845 numbers that i used, and got the landline alternatives to them and saved them in my phone. Hope this helps somewhat hun, all the best x

hi Pania, good luck on your challenge i'm convinced you'll be able to achieve it. On the issue of the works phone being upstairs, how about getting one of those sets which has a 'slave' phone, doesnt' need to plug into a phone line just plug into the power socket, you can then have that downstairs in the room that you usually find yourself in when you need to make those work calls. (just and idea)
I've got lots to achieve this year coming what with the wedding and all so probably won't be able to join your challenge, but i've got my own challenge going - decrease my debt by about 10K and not add any through the wedding. I really could do with finding a second income that i can do from home.
good luck to a close neighbour.

from round your parts? or should the from be replaced with for?:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: (sorry *pania slinks off naughtily awaiting the slapped wrist from fellow dfw's*)

If you look on the gambling and introductory loopholes board GTD there are numerous spreadbetting free sign up deals. even one with barclays where you don't have to use the money, leave it sitting there and in 6 months you can withfraw it as your own. I'm doing this with the barclays £100 at the mo and can withdraw it in feb.
Also one of them has a "sticky" £150, any money that you get above £150 can be withdrawn as profit but the £150 sits there to be used again, and if you loose it, hey it's there money anyhoo. maybe worth a look.

Hi Lemon tree and a typical blonde!!:D thanks for your comments, gotta hand the laptop over for 5 mins but will send you a longer reply once i'm back.

Lemon tree I'm heading down your way this week, maybe thurs. drop me a pm if your about would be lovely to meet a fellow DFW. (and as Hypno can vouch, i bring cake!!:rotfl: )

Hi, wanted to wish you good luck with your challenge for the next year, maybe i should look at a target like that ive only been thinking about my dfd, and making sure im reaching a target each month, that might help me to be more focused on reducing the date a bit. I need to get it to june 2010!

ok back now, lemon tree thats a great idea re the slave phone, wonder if i could get away with it for personal calls to!! we hardly ever use our landline, is a waste of money really but it's oh that pays that bill so down to him really.
excellent idea re 0870 atb going to look at that today and report back. watch this space!! love the idea that n rock may be desperate for money, feel better that others think i am doing the right thing and that i should get rid of that then use the 274 towards rest of the debt.

    thanks guys. xx
