yes - she can do 6 ft from a standing start if she wants! But she does respect the fence if she can't see through it so I need to reinforce the screening a bit! Training is going well with her - we are working on getting her to recall from distractions - she is getting there with other dogs etc but wouldn't fancy my chances from a squirrel! She also has the added complication of not liking other dogs particularly so can be difficult to have around them though she is improving with that too. We found her on the road when she was about 6 months old so who knows what had happened to her poor love - noone claimed her in spite of loads of advertising, police etc so she stayed. She is scarily bright so learns really fast but also means she can work out all sorts of mischief! :rotfl:

    Morning peeples!!!

A bright and early morning pania here.... without the bright.... god i'm shattered! up early as i need to get to northampton for 11, no time for a run this morning sadly but i am taking my running gear so i can go tomorrow morning instead. Staying at my friends house tonight to avoid paying for a hotel. although we get it back again further in the month i can't afford that cost up front.
so a whole 2 days training ahead for me to get me into the new role... I feel asthough that is al that i have been doing this last few months train...train...train... yawn.. I'd rather just sit down and get on with the work to be honest.
Well financially things have gone a bit awry this month, my bad for not keeping my eye on the ball and letting myself be milked by xoh. i know i know you don't need to say it i know it myself.... I had to wait for some money to come back so i could do another matched bet so need to find a company to do that with, I've saved £73 but i have my best friends 30th this month and need to get DP's registration sorted out, atleast i have contingency funds to do that. So back to my comments on focus focus focus!!!!! i neeeeed to pull myself together and get on with it... helping hand back onto the bandwagon anyone??
Mizmir had to have a laugh at the squirrel!!!! I bet that lurchers are as bad as terriers when it comes to shouting "I CAN'T HEAR YOOOOOOOOOOOOO" as they vanish into the distance! a friend of mine uses a high pitched whistle with his springer for recall work, he says it cuts out his normal commands and the dog can't mistake it for being asked to do something else and focusses him on the recall (trust me, having heard the whistle i fear it's more the poor mite thinks his ear drums will explode if he doesn't comply! ;)

    Right 0703, best get shaping.

Catch you all later, have a great day now....xxx

yes - I use a whistle too - mainly so that I am not wandering round the neighbourhood screaming like a banshee (especially at 6.30 in the morning!). But small furry critters that run fast are still too much temptation for her. Hell if she has her sights on one ou can literally wave roast chicken in front of her nose and she will just toss her head so that you are not blocking her view!! And this is a very foody dog normally!! Sight hound - guess it is in her genes - sigh. That said right now I have two dogs both with their coats on who are refusing even to set foot outside as it is raining so hard! So not such an intrepid fell huntress.... Will have to drag them out to the garden at least before I leave for work!

Falling off the wgon is a speciality of mine - as long as you realise before it has driven off over the horizon you can climb back on (or be hauled!) - just start again from where you are now.

    Good luck with the training!
