Ummm I think that kind of goes against innocent until proven guilty and going to court to clear your name and leaving without a stain on your character though. Not sure you can add a "possibly not guilty-maybe" verdict ! :)
I once did jury service with a middle aged women (she knitted all the way through the cases-you get the picture). She told us that we needed to find a particular defendent not guily-"although I do think he did it but he seems a nice young man and deserves a chance" -that was bad enough but the next case was a black guy with a career of petty crime behind him (came out in evidence) who she said " We should find him guilty-although I'm not sure he did do it-but I'm sure he's done other things he hasn't been caught for so it's all right" My jaw was somewhere around my knees-I could not believe anyone had so little idea of what our justice system means.
Incidently we found them BOTH not guilty -on the *evidence*

Well it's not a verdict in any case. The jury aren't *allowed* to reach a verdict, because the case is thrown out.

And besides, if I obtained an injunction against you turning into a black cat at midnight - would you conceive of it being a irrepairable stain on your character?

These people vote too. Hint for the future - since the advent of television bald men don't become Prime Minister. Ever. No matter their policies, or their competance.

Some people are beyond belief!! although i like her way of thinking!! (joking)
That always absolutely amazed me to be honest how admissible evidence was often disregarded and the judge (esp in magistrates court) appeared to draw their own conclusions. The fact that judges in mags don't have any knowledge of the law and have to be "advised" made it even worse!! nicking the same guy 5 times for breach of bail in the space of 2 weeks and having him released every time with the same conditions does get a tad demotivating. why? because the judges didn't want the hassle of what was infront of them, they'd rather pass it off for another day for someone else to deal with.
But their is good and bad in every proffesion. we had a judge at the crown court and every time i saw his name on our trial sheet i leapt in the air because every case that should be found guilty was with him around.

anyway, does your friend know what way forward she has now hon?
