SCS sofa order cancellation

Hello, someone please help
We ordered a sofa in SCS store yesterday 06.05.2019. We gave the measurements to salesperson. 220-260×upto 220cm. (And maximum 240cm wide). We liked a sofa and the salesperson explained about the sofa and when measured it was 260×260. After showing a picture of our living room he convinced us that the sofa should fit in. We paid in full and signed the form. All we were told was it takes upto 8 weeks for delivery. All happies.
Trouble started when I measured at home to see how it would look like. Surprise, the sofa would be blocking our kitchen door. Within an hour I rushed to the store and spoke to a senior manager. The lady said she will visit our home today 07.05.2019.
The senior manager visited our home today and suggested to remove the door or swap the door to the opposite side of the door frame. Otherwise she was convinced that the sofa won't fit in a practical way. She suggested removing a seat in the ordered sofa which wouldn't be enough for our family.
I asked the lady for a refund but she said she can only order amend the order for a smaller sofa. We want the sale to be cancelled and get a refund which she refused. Our order is now paused for 7 days. Now I've got until Tuesday to order a smaller sofa. We were not told that we cannot cancel the order (I am genuine and honest). We thought there would be the usual cooling off period to cancel.
Very disheartening and stressful. Please someone help or let us know where we can go from here.
Thank you.

As SCS say on their website (good old Google), information on your right to cancel is detailed on your sales invoice.

As you purchased in store, the distance selling regulations etc don’t apply.

Da rule, thank you for your reply. Yes started research about cancellation after the sale. Checked the sales invoice and did say that I cannot cancel.

Is there not a smaller sofa in their range that you like? That would seem to be the simplest option. After all, you need a sofa, they sell sofas....

Thank you aylesbury, unfortunately that was my number 1. I was quite happy until I realised it was of incorrect size. My number 2 is of £ 900 which is a normal 3 seater which we do not need as we have one like that.

How much was the one you've ordered? Will they allow you to change the order for a cheaper one or does it have to be the same price or more?

I don't follow your logic about not needing another 3-seater sofa. You already have a 3-seater and presumably need another sofa, hence the order. Why can't the new one also be a 3-seater? How many seats has the new one got? I'm guessing 4? Surely it's better to have another 3-seater sofa than a 4-seater that's too big for the space? On how many occasions will you need 7 people sat on sofas simultaneously?

Edited to add: or do you mean you'll be getting rid of the current 3-seater? If so, a similar argument applies: surely a 3-seater that fits is better than a 4-seater that doesn't?

Hello aylesbury, the one I ordered is a 5 seat corner sofa. Paid £ 2230. The ones I have at home is a 2 seat and a 1 seat sofa. Both old sofas will have to for charity. A 4 seater is not suitable. If I'm forced to amend, I would go for a 3 seater which I liked and that is £ 900. Thank you

I mean I would rather keep my old sofas or if forced go for the £ 900 sofa. This was the only other sofa we liked in the store.

I'd be inclined to visit the store and talk to the manager and explain that the salesmans assured you it would fit OK.

Thank you zandoni, I told the lady but she said it's all on the paper in black and white and I've signed on it. Wow, couldn't get my head around it. They could just say yes Mr S, your case is genuine and we refund you if this was an ideal sofa world.

I will be going to CAB tomorrow to see if they can help. I've already sent an email to the CEO of SCS Mr David Knight.
