Trying to mediate a house purchase

So husband is paying 100% deposit (half of purchase price), wife needs to get mortgage to bring her share to the table (so to speak) and will end up paying more than half the purchase price + mortgage interest.

Husband feels he does not have to pay half the mortgage interest because he has already supplied 50% of the house price as a deposit.
Wife feels this is totally unfair and husband should pay half the interest on mortgage as this is the true overall cost of property.is she right?

Neither party can afford the house by themselves.

So as i said who's in the right here?

    I thought the point of getting married was to share? I must be old fashioned? It sounds like a couple who aren't married to be honest. Why all this he pays half so she has to pay half? What happened to ours?

    Either get divorced and/or don't go into joint property ownership.


    Or both.

    They are married, if they have a problem over this I suggest they rent, then when one wants a divorce it will be a lot easier.

    I see your points but humor me, is it fair for the husband to expect not to pay any of the mortgage interest if they truly want to split the cost 50/50?
    Taking into account lower interest and monthly repayment due to huge deposit? I think that's what his line of thinking is.
    Wife is just looking at it from fairness / total cost point of view.

    Assuming we go with their finances being completely and utterly separate, and this works for them...

    Then if they're buying the property 50:50, with her half funded by borrowed money, so incurring interest, while his is not, so isn't - it would seem to make sense that the interest was paid from her finances, yes.

    She seems to want to have cake + eat cake.

    The right is a million miles away from this situation!

    I hope they aren’t planning on having kids, or one of them getting ill, or losing their job, they clearly don’t know how partnership is supposed to work.
