The op of that thread has returned and, just in time ,has almost resolved their issue.
I don't mind people objecting or reporting my posts, but this just seemed spiteful.
It was purely to help a third party , and the person who reported me clearly knew their motivation was not altruistic.0 -
If you had helpful information, why not post it on here. It possibly would have helped other people in the same sort of situation. I dont enderstand why it was made to sound like it was secretmake the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -

Helpful to who?the Retailer?
Yes it would have been!
Obviously I usually do, but sometimes you cannot post things like personal information as it contravenes mse rules.
Some things on this board can't be publicly posted, and sometimes there are reasons and facts you can't even state.
Surely this is obvious on this board.0 -

Do you know for sure you were reported? If PM requests are against MSE policy, it may be the case that a board guide just happened to see your post and removed it themselves.0 -

Quite bizarre! That a forum offers a PM facility but - apparently - doesn't allow users to request or suggest a PM in posts. There a many valid reasons why one might need to request a PM from someone. Still, I do find this forum a little strange at times, so I suppose it's par for the course.
I should add, I had a quick trawl through the forum rules but couldn't find anything about this (could easily have missed it). If it's not in the rules, and it is a rule, then it should be in the rules!0 -

Unless the rules have changed, and they have not been updated in writing yet, BGs should not be acting alone as forum moderators. The Board Guides are volunteers who help to keep the forum running smoothly. They do not deal with reports made - and are totally separate to the Forum Team. Instead, they...- Focus on a few boards - not the whole forum
- Keep threads on topic and boards running smoothly (including moving non-MoneySaving related discussions to Discussion Time/MoneySavers Arms where appropriate)
- Delete spam and report the poster to the Forum Team
- Help newbies find their way around
- Point site users to relevant main site guides, news stories and blogposts
- Merge or link together duplicate threads
- "Sticky" the best threads to the top of the board
- Lock contentious threads and report them to the Forum Team.
What a Board Guide isn't/can't do- Board Guides are not moderators. They don't deal with contentious posts; that's the Forum Team's job.
If a Board Guide spots a contentious thread, they should report it to the Forum Team, just like any other user would.
The FT will be able to see exactly how the post was removed, and by whom.
As someone who has themselves been warned with losing their posting priviliges simply for having used the spam button in the past relating to a post that I genuinely considered to be spam, and still to this day do (you can read more about it here; the offending post remains deleted from view, you can make your own mind up), I think any rogue BG found to be acting outside of their remit should also be warned and perhaps be at least BGPR'd (Board Guide Priviliges Revoked), particularly in view of the fact thatFor obvious reasons, if the Forum Team has received reports about a particular poster, that person won't normally be considered for a Board Guide position.0 -
Forum doesn't know what you are pm'ing
...
The Forum may not know what is being PM'd, but the Admin Team have the ability to view any PMs - whether they take advantage of that possibility is their decision.
But to remove posts purely based on speculation ... well that surely is a worse crime than signalling a post to the FT that one considers a post to genuinely be spam based on its content by use of the spam button (which alone does not remove any post), but on later review by the FT they decide is not a spam post. (but remove it/leave it deleted anyway)0 -
That phrase 'posting privileges' really amuses me. No! We, the posters, confer the privileges on the owners of the board. They are privileged that people spend their time contributing to the discussions and thereby keep the board alive. Without the posters there would be nothing,0

Forum doesn't know what you are pm'ing
Not in this case but on many areas of the forum can be referrals , affiliate links , illegal content etc
So, people are able and allowed to PM each other - but just not to reference it?*Look for advice, not 'advise'*
*Could/should/would HAVE please!*
