Really angry with Kwik Fit!

Any advice please??
I took my car to Kwik Fit for a standard service. It was working fine before I left it.!
They called me later to say there was a problem I couldnt drive it and they were getting their expert to have a look at it.!
Unbeknown to me this meant they were getting another local garage to have a look. When I got it back it was misfiring and the fuel consumption has now changed - its less efficient. Plus there are an additional 65 miles on the clock which cant be reasonably accounted for.!
I complained and was told to take it back to the local garage by Kwik Fit but they (Kwik Fit) would sort everything. The other garage then sent it to a 3rd garage - a 'Diesel expert'. The 2nd garage are now saying all 4 injectors need replacing and Kwik Fit wont cover this as they cant guarantee that it will sort the problem. They suggest I take it to a Volvo garage for a diagnostic and then bring it back to have the work done there - which I will have to pay for.
When I asked whats the connection between a service and the injectors they said the wrong type of oil might have been used. Apparently when they collected it from Kwik Fit it was undriveable , sounded like a tractor and had no power. This is all going to cost me a lot of money - Im unlikely to see much change from £2k. I can't afford that. Anyone got any advice please?

A standard service is little more than an engine oil and filter change, and a quick glance at the things that you check any way. It can't possibly have had anything to do with the injectors or fuel system.

An expensive service includes a diesel filter, which may have introduced contamination, but some of these National chains try to make extra profit by adding some magic fluid to the fuel to "clean the injectors/catalyst/restore 200bhp" and then sticking another £20 on the price. Maybe they added a magic fluid and it was the wrong one? But I'd not expect it to cause a problem that quickly.

Maybe something happened in the missing 65 miles......
I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

Surely the wrong type of oil wouldn't cause the injectors to fail?

Wrong kind of oil would have no effect on the injectors at all. However if your car is high mileage and they've bunged some injector cleaner into it and drove it like they stole it to clean them out then it could have killed injectors that might not have had long to live.

    Mileage is only 59,000.
Is there any other reason why it would sound lumpy on driving over 40mph, have lower fuel efficiency, feel heavy on steering?

Have you got a fault code reader? Might be worth plugging it in and seeing if it shows anything.

Have you checked your power steering fluid?

When did you last change spark plugs and have the timing checked?

My crystal ball tells me it's never had new spark plugs. It wouldn't surprise me if Kwik Fit tried to change them though.

Volvo... Diesel specialist... 1.6, by any chance?

If so, then it's very good practice to check and retorque the injectors at every service. If they work loose, and the seals start to leak combustion gases, then that's one of the ways that the whole sludge mess that kills a lot of these engines starts.
