Weekly Flylady Thread 6th May 2019

Welcome to the Weekly Flylady Thread
What is FLYLADY? Well, it's our version of the US flylady idea - but we work on the principle that housework is not fun, it's boring, can be time-consuming, is often thankless but, unfortunately, necessary. It's here on Old Style to provide the support we all need and to make the whole task easier and quicker. We also accept that, sometimes, life just gets on top of us and we can't keep up, maybe because we're time-poor, not in the best of health and/or we have littlies who need us. We are definitely NOT control freaks aiming for perfection and utterly spotless show-homes.
Welcome to the weekly Flylady Thread. You're more than welcome to join us in the everlasting battle against dust, grime and gibble. The aim of our thread is to make those onerous tasks less daunting, and to support each other - and to make time for the finer things in life!
Please do remember we have to abide by MSE rules; each post should, ideally, include some mention of flying.
Thank you Valli for last week's thread
Please follow the forum rules on this thread as Flylady has been here a LONG time and is a fabulous support and resource for lots of us. All posts should have some Flylady-related (ooh a compound adjective) content!
The idea is that even if you are really busy you don't need to fall off the wagon!
Every room comes back around next week so please don’t stress about catching up
These lists are only suggestions and not a must do list; you are more than welcome to post and follow your own lists.
Also adding a declutter mission each day will help to gradually clear the clutter and make flying easier.
A few of the basics before we start the week
Hotspots are areas where if one thing gets put there, loads of other things follow!
Daily routines are anything you need to do on a daily basis like washing, swish and swipe kitchen and bathroom, ironing, making beds, vacuuming high traffic areas, making meals etc.
Night-time routines are all things which make getting ready in the morning easier, preparing clothes for the next day, making lunches, swish & swipes of the kitchen and tidying the living room before you go to bed plus personals like shower/brush teeth etc.
Fling Boogie - stick on some loud music, grab a bin bag and whiz around the house finding items that can go out with the rubbish, recycling, for charity shop, basically anything that will stop it cluttering your home.
Swish and swipe/S&S means have a quick wipe over an area such as a sink or toilet to prevent the build up of dirt. This is usually done on a daily basis
HHE/HHC/HHI Half Hour exercise/challenge/ironing ... run around for 30 minutes to the Benny Hill music frantically cleaning exercising or ironing.. other music may be used if you prefer!
WM ~ Washing machine
TD ~ Tumble dryer
SC ~ Slowcooker
BM ~ Breadmaker
DW ~ Dishwasher
SOAADFA ~ Sit on 'bottom' and do 'nothing'
KH/XH/FW ~ Ex-husband and other not so polite versions
DH/DD/DS/DW/DP ~ Dear husband/daughter/son/wife/partner/whatever
WUDUPA ~ Washed up, dried up, put away
WUALTD ~ Washed up and left to dry
OH/SO ~ Other half/significant other
NN ~ nice neighbour
Toxic (friend/mother/sister/whoever) ~ person in your life that seems to exist to make your life miserable
AF ~ Aunt Flo 'time of the month'.. nothing to do with flying but it comes up often.
ETA ~ Edited to add
Gibble ~ miscellaneous crap that appears forever homeless
Dot-to-dot ~ pick a small area (not a whole room) like a chair/coffee/table/shelf/worktop or wherever- thats your first 'dot' - totally clear it - clean it - and only put back what should be there - deal with what you have removed (not just move it somewhere else) then if you have time move on and do the same to another 'dot' -the idea is just like a dot to dot puzzle, you aim to join up all the dots and have a tidy room. The trick is to keep each dot tidy until you get them all joined up! All credit to AnW's Mum for this one
RoD ~ Room of Doom, the one room that feels like it is a permanent pit and cannot be used to its potential!
Some of our abbreviations: DH- dear husband, OH- other half, KH/CF- affectionate term for ex husband or partner DS/DD- dear son/daughter, DGC- dear grandchild, WM- washing machine, DW- dishwasher, LR/DR- living/dining room, RoD- room of doom, Mr S/A/T/M/L/Al- supermarkets Sainsburys, Asda, Tesco, Morrisons, Lidl, Aldi. You get the picture!

:hello:
Its been a while since I was in here (October 2016 actually
) and I've come back as I've missed you and I really really need to come back for the accountability. :rotfl:
For those who aren't on my Facebook, a couple of changes since I was last here:- I've turned 40 and I've been diagnosed with Fibromyalgia. Now I finally understand why I was struggling with things so much over the last few years. I'm not currently medicated as I'm trying to last as long as possible without starting the "hardcore" prescription only stuff, but I have a physiotherapy appointment next week so I'll see what that brings (last time I ended up a blubbering wreck and in so much more pain, but that was pre-diagnosis and they were treating my back pain as a problem with my scoliosis so not their fault really)
- DD is now DS and is 18 years old! He's off to university in September, but first we need to get through his A-levels, and start the process of his transgender therapy/treatment.

Creeping back in for accountability after falling off the wagon in 2016.Need to get back to old style in modern ways, watching the pennies and getting stuff done!0 -
Nothing else done today.
He didn't come back. Apparently, he's rather busy having a nervous breakdown. I'm supposed to be reassured that he's 'safe and with friends'.
Good for him.
I wish I had the luxury.
If he manages to drag himself back tomorrow morning as he claims he is going to do, I can't see this going well.I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll

Thanks for the list Natty, I'm in.

Morning all,
Hi Nicki, I wasn't here when you were last around, so hi. Fibrosis mean, a few friends have this, hope you get it under control soon. Hope your son gets through a-levels well, what a stressful time.
#operationpotty - No bed sheets to change today, dream wee at 10:45pm, and mummy getting up as soon as she heard him at 5:50am has led to a dry bed. Woooooohooooo. Let's see how today goes. Wish us luck.
Quote from the fireplace fitter has arrived, so hubby needs to crack on with sorting that out - I need a date so I can line all the other stuff up.
House needs a good tidy round, food shopping needs doing and we need to be brave and leave the house with Pickle in pants.
Have a good bank hol everyone - just a nor,al day for us really

Nicki I was thinking about you *cue Twilight zone music*. How are Johanne and Pumpkin? (Thinking about Toots too)
3rd washload on. JJTF (((hugs)))
Honey Bear... can't help thinking of lyrics from Layla... you got me on my knees. Doubt the next line was 'scrubbing the carpet' though.
3rd washload on. DW is on too. Finally got my arris in gear and listed more flingage on eBay. Finished the left front last night, too. So need to do sleeves and band then sew. Note to self - buy buttons. Baby due a week tomorrow on what would have been my sisters 55th birthday. Fingers crossed for due day delivery!
I've entered a competition on savers Facebook page in the hope that if I win a certain Flylady could use the prize.Don't put it DOWN; put it AWAY"I would like more sisters, that the taking out of one, might not leave such stillness" Emily Dickinson

Morning all
Hi Nicki I confess I dont remember much from 2016 but lovely to see an old friend on here. Sounds like you have a lot going on!
Struggling with tiredness and feeling cold. Thyroid medication was increased 2 weeks ago so it should be taking effect soon. Anxiety is through the roof too, lots of pressure at work which I am not dealing with very well, then I get annoyed with myself about it!
DS1 has got a six week trial doing his dream job with a very good employer and DS2 is coasting along towards his A levels. DS1 is moving home for a while so I am a little apprehensive about this, he doesnt really want to come back but it makes sense for now. I love him to bits but he will want to treat the place like a hotel which causes tension.
I am working at home today, not compulsory but I have a lot to do and I can bank some hours. Not very motivated though. House is reasonably clean and tidy but kitchen does need a clean.
Hope you get more news about OH JoJo.0 -
Morning all,
Not a bank holilday here but it is on Wednesday so not complaining!
Back after weekend in other house with more washing too, mainly towels and a bit of bedding so not difficult. WM already on, bags unpacked and place is generally tidy. Pellet stove has been cleaned out, had better go and refill it or it will run out tonight just when we want it and no one wants to go to the garage to get more chips.
Finances for last month have just been updated, so that is expenses up to date, but stil need to do the savings spreadsheet.
DD1 goes back to her own place tomorrow so trying to make sure her last few bits of washing are up to date. It's been nice having her around but will also be nice to have the place to ourselves again and hopefully can get on track with slinky.
Off to diy shop for bathroom man now
Hugs to all that need. Xx0 -
Welcome back, Nicki. Sorry about the firbro diagnosis, but at least that means appropriate therapies can be introduced.
Jojo, just (((hugs))).
(((Hugs))) YL.

'Patience is a virtue,
Possess it if you can,
Seldom seen in women,
and Never in a man.'Honey Bear... can't help thinking of lyrics from Layla... you got me on my knees. Doubt the next line was 'scrubbing the carpet' though.
:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
I hear that guitar riff every time I use her name! OH now wants to call her Jumble. Tricky, as she's answering to Layla already!
Today will be spent mostly sorting cupboards and shelves in my office ready for the books and other treasures. I can't wait; this is the culmination of years of work, and the whole point of Hovel to Haven. Getting my treasures out of the attic at last. I've really missed them. At the same time over the past few weeks I've made a lot of decisions about letting go of the past. Stuff will be going to the sale rooms and I already feel a lot less burdened things that I felt I should have some feelings for but really don't.Better is good enough.0
