Inheritance, Wills & Probate questions?

Seriously, see a solicitor - it is pretty clear none of you know what you are doing and the chance of a phenomenal c**k-up is looking pretty high.
Also, read 'Probate. The guide to obtaining grant of probate and administering an estate' by Gordon Bowley LLB. Or any good guide to 'What to do when someone dies'. Don't ask any more d**b questions until you have.0 -
I was told earlier in the thread that the free ones are at least SRA registered so how can it c**k up when it's SRA Registered?
The Free Will will be a basic Will following your instructions. It will not include a full consultation or any inheritance tax planning and you would agree to these limitations when instructing the solicitor.A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0 -

Is it true that I heard that the govt. is increasing the inheritance tax limit to a £million next year?
Our estate is less than £325000 current limit anyway. So should I worry about inheritance tax planning?
Does the new inheritance tax law applies to new wills only or any will even made after the new inheritance tax law?0 -
There a no new(recent) inheritance tax laws.
The nil rate band will go up to £1m for some situations but that change was years ago.0 -
This is looking like a complete wind-up.#2 Saving for Christmas 2024 - £1 a day challenge. £325 of £3660

Hi coming back to this thread I submitted the will application last early December. Got the will through email stating that the will needs to be executed by 2 witnesses by both signing the will as well as the main Testator signing it too. Problem is if I cant find anyone to sign, that means will is useless? Or is there any special circumstances that allow the will to be legally binding just by the main testator signing it?
Is there any fee paying witness signature services out there? Cause no one willing to sign in these virus conditions you know what I mean.
Secondly when it comes to storing the will does anyone know the contact details of the local Probate Registry in Birmingham and how much is their fee for storing?
Lastly do Banks store wills and how is their service different to the Probate registry above?
What happens if I just get the will signed instead of sending it to the probate registry or bank above and instead store lets say for example underneath my bed? What are the disadvantages of this compared to both bank and probate registry above?
Finally what is probate administration and lasting power of attorney service offered by solicitors?

Otherwise anyone could write a will for someone else and forge the signature. ISTR there are special cases like "battlefield" wills but that is hardly relevent here.2) The witnesses must have observed the Testator signing the will, that is what they are witnessing. So you would need to get three people together in a room, which may be difficult in current circumstances. If you went through a solicitor you would get that as part of the service.Dont your parents know anyone? Do they know you are sorting out a will for them?

Is there a service where a fee is paid just for signatures? Like I remember paying my GP £20 fee for his signature on passport renewal form.0
