Thank you confirms what I thought as it took four weeks from changing to get it over due to a system fault they gave me 20£ credit on the account and now sounds like the same has happened.
Gonna forget about it enjoy my holiday and ring the ceo office team when I get back.

    Thanks for everyone’s help.

Enjoy what's left of your holiday.

As soon as you return, read your meter(s) and have the reading(s) to hand when you phone ready to give the call handler.

If you have access to your account while on holiday then surely you can log in and see what the daily reading(s) the meter(s), if any, are sending to your seemingly hopeless supplier?

The other thing to consider is that on prepay you were much more aware of what you were using, but once switched to DD this awareness dropped. It is quite regular for consumption to increase once customers move off prepayment. So the p/kWh may be the same (or less) but if you are using more kWh then you will need to pay more.

    Hi all.

Spoke with BG and just as I thought even with switching we haven’t actually used more.
They said something with the tarrif and the meter from the original error. It’s all updated on my metre and online account now. Works out an extra 3.52£ pcm with the electric and 1.22£pcm on the gas.

Still think payg was better as costing a little more but at least not as much as it was originally showing.

    Thread can be closed.

    Thanks

I think you need to explain this please - can you give us the PAYG and Credit rates and the consumptions involved.

Next time you go on holiday don't look at your app !
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill

Working this out from the app since they updated it from what it shows as my monthly amount used to what I know we used on our payg
I only looked at the app due to an email from BG

    https://www.britishgas.co.uk/aem6/content/dam/britishgas/documents/tariffs/BG-Safeguard-PAYG-01.04.19.xls PayG tarrif

    https://www.britishgas.co.uk/aem6/content/dam/britishgas/documents/tariffs/Online-Table-HomeEnergy-Secure-Green-May-2021.xls DD tarrif.

I’m going to have to start looking more into things because according to those grids it should be cheaper not more expensive.

We are the type of household that turns plugs etc off and it’s not been over looked from going on to DD from PayG. And we got the exact same appliances and do the same load of washing etc nothing has changed. There’s only two of us and a dog in the property.

It happened to me when switching from prepayment to credit mode on a smart meter,my bills increased as well as the standing charge, getting the meter reverted to prepayment took time and a meter readers internal visit to look for other non existent gas meters'.

Prepayment is the place to be today, the customer is under the vulnerability umbrella and has priority meter repairs with the latest meters.Watch your credit report too.

I’m glad it’s not just me then @Michaelw

    Was yours BG also?
It seemed a better option and now starting to think this is actually a worst of option.
When you say watch your credit report has something awful happened to yours? I really don’t need something awful happening as we’re looking to buy in the next 6months

At those direct debit prices, I would be looking at moving. Much more competitive tariffs around.

My plan was to move however due to the smart metres I have and apparently no other supplier is able to use the ones British Gas has installed.

And none of them can offer Saturday appointments or a guaranteed time to install.
My partner does sales for an airline and can be in the house one minute and out the next.
It’s also difficult for me to get time off work as it is and have to preplan well in advance.
