DD coating more than prepayment
Options
Hi
Tried searching but can’t find anything.
Has anyone moved from a prepayment metre to a Dd which is meant to save you more and it costs more?
We had prepayment for 2.5yrs and finally made the switch to DD everyone saying it cheaper and BG told me would beneficially every month to look at switching. Finally made the switch and the prices they have were same as what I was topping up and always was left in credit.
Using the same amount of energy and still have smart metre so can see.
I’m out most the day at work partner works from home and we already knew what was spending.
Had my first bill gas is 12£ more and electric a whopping 37.76£ more than what I paid.
Has this happened to anyone else?
I’m considering paying the 80£ exit fee and going back to paygo if this doesn’t iron it self out from my next bill.
Thanks.

You will be charged based on what you use.
But there are a range of tariffs out there for credit metered customers that are cheaper than anything you will get by being on a PPM.
Use a comparison site to find them0 -
danielc9 -- can you give the readings from the bills please - is there a letter A or E against them.
Are you new meters Smart ?
Being on a credit meter involves some input from you. Do you read the meter ?Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0 -
Hi robin.
I’m currently out of the country and just received my bill
While I understand people are saying there is different tariffs out there everyone you speak to looks at you like your a tramp on meters and I honestly can say me and my partner are on extremely good salaries for our age and are disappointed that the bills are so much higher. We have the BG SM which do the automatic readings.
I’ve even said to my mum how disappointed I am at listening to her into going on to DD (she’s never had paygo) and she thought mine was expensive where I thought it was good and now finding the flamming DD a RIP off.
When you say an A or an E what is that in correspondence to on the bill?0 -
A means Actual, E means Estimated.
Have you the actual consumptions from your bill - if you have used more you will be paying more.Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0 -
Thank you it keeps saying estimated and it’s those Prices.
The first bills where two day bills and I know we’ve used the same amount if not less energy in the two months we’ve had it as we’ve been out to the country or my partner he’s been on work trips in between meaning nobody is at home during the day.
Once I get the full bill (surprised I have met as made 3payments of the set amount now) I’m going to contact BG it’s either we weren’t charged enough on Payg or Dd is extremely expensive.0 -
When you get home read your meter - ring BG (it's quite possible the meter's not fully set up yet). Keep a simple spreadsheet and do your sums.
What is the name of your tariff - I hope it doesn't say standard .Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0 -

So you have nopt been billed properly? Did you supply a read.
Given the company do not know you are not there they will estimate as if you are.
DD if nothing to do with useage, just average usage over the years (so higher than PP in winter and lower in summer etc).
As such it is important to provide reads on at least a monthly basis or preferably weekly (or get a smart meter), if you want accurate billing.0 -
Thanks will do that back Sunday night. It’s home secure May 2021. I’m having a feeling terrified is incorrect as we had issues getting it changed to start with and I went through CEO complaints and did it all through text message.
And I noticed the tariffs didn’t match up so wondering if when they corrected it they didn’t offset the incorrect billing period. Which is making sense now as you mention about standard0 -
They advised me the readings would be take. Automatic from the smart Meter and they could see the reading she. It took over from the payg and I’ve stayed with BG. I asked if we needed to do readings and they said no our meter does it automatically. I’m feeling they’ve made a complete mess of my account due to the earlier issues.0

I see so getting a estimated means it is not set up.
The people on the call line are not engineers and just tell you as it should be. It's pretty much up to you to notice it is not and complain. They may notice eventually themselves! But that is not good for your billing.0
