So if you got a window company in to change all of your windows and doors you would go round behind them and check their measurements??? No you leave it to them, if they muck up they make a new one to the right size at their own cost.
I agree but that's not a good analogy. A more appropriate one would be that you ask a company to quote to replace the 16 windows in your house, they supply a quote for 12 windows, having missed four by mistake, and you ask them to go ahead. Why would they supply the four windows FOC?

It's quite simple. The contractor has quoted to supply and fit a set size, which he is doing. If the quote said "quote for the whole garden - 30m2" then I think it would be more ambiguous but as I understand it, it didn't. Your window example is flawed because glaziers don't charge solely on dimensions - they would quote to replace a whole window which just happens to be of certain dimensions.

I've put new windows in two houses since Christmas.

I had to sign off the measurements and they didn't miss any windows off the quote.

The OP has a contradictory quote, which is to have artificial grass covering the lawn, and 30 metres square.

The company have made a mistake, but have HALF covered themselves by putting a size on the quote.

The OP had agreed in a price to have his garden covered though...

    There are 4 options:

    1. The company honour the original quote given it was their mistake.

    2. The OP pays the additional cost for 40m squared.

    3. The OP negotiates a price for the additional 10m squared

    4. The order is cancelled and they put the OPs garden back as it was.
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

I don't think that's correct. OP said the quote "was for the fitting of grass in the rear garden area", not covering the lawn.

I agree with your options other than number 4. OP asked them to go ahead based on the quote, so I don't see that the contractor is obliged to undo the work.

Will you please stop suggesting that someone takes responsibility?
It's just not in the spirit of speculation and spurious analogies....;p

    The answer is simple!
If the original conversation, when asked to quote, was to cover the rear garden with artificial turf then that is what we would do regardless of what measurement we put in the quote.
That's not me blowing my own trumpet, honouring the initial agreement is what any good company would do.
If you take a loss then you learn to measure twice and quote once!
