[STRIKE]Thanks. Then you're on good ground, but I suspect you have a choice between friendly negotiation and unfriendly enforcement, the latter of which will take time. If they refuse to complete the job you'll have to find an alternative contractor to finish the job and claim the cost of the first contractor.[/STRIKE]

I'm not so sure. They've quoted for 30m2 & are happy to lay 30m2. Unless the quote specifically says which areas are to be covered I think they are safe to ask for more. It's no good going on what was said at the time, it was 2 years ago.
Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.

You're quite right. Sorry, I got my numbers mixed up! Good job I'm not a turfing expert...!

Sorry OP, if they quoted for 30m2 and you've asked them to start work, they're within their rights to ask for the extra..

The quote was for the fitting of grass in the rear garden area. Total measurement 30m2.

Just to clear up something. I don't blame the fitters. They have actually dug up the whole thing.

Main problem is that there is not enough grass as the franchise owner mis-measured. Now the franchise owner is saying I need to order more grass (which will be more than I need because of minimum orders etc.). On top of this, the fitters need to be arranged to come out again as well. Overall, it is costing me more than if he just measured the damn thing properly first.

Part of me feels it's a dodgy sales technique; quote low then up the price on fitting day.

I doubt it's a sales ploy. I can't believe they planned to have to be there twice.

I'd just suck it up and leave honest feedback, including recommending other customers check the measurements in their quotes.

I don't get how people can say if the quote says 30m2 then it's not the company's fault. If you get someone out to measure up and give you a quote you don't then go round checking their measurements. Thats what your paying them for so they need to put it right.

There are two elements to the situation though. Yes, it's the company's fault for not measuring correctly but technically, they quoted to supply and fit 30m2, not 40m2. I think there's room for a negotiated way out that suits both parties if they're both willing. As it stands, I can't see how OP can insist the company turf 40m2 at no extra cost.

Because people are human and it's not fair to expect others to pay for something you're getting the benefit of when the quote says exactly what you've paid for - 30 square metres of turf.

It's hardly a scam when it's in black and white. It would have taken all of 1 minute to double check the measurements. Not doing that doesn't resolve the OP of any responsibility because the quote was for a specific amount.

So if you got a window company in to change all of your windows and doors you would go round behind them and check their measurements??? No you leave it to them, if they muck up they make a new one to the right size at their own cost.
