Do you have guarantors for your rent because if you do and you attempt to "do a runner" without paying then they will be held liable. This would most likely be your parents.

what do you think will happen to the deposit if you don't pay your rent payment?

Did you have to supply guarantors to rent the property?

Are you planning to return to studies next year?

Yes, we do have them. It's my dad.
I'm just thinking that as the deposit is less than what we owe and the new landlord will be fined, maybe they'll just let us off, or forget about it?

    Not a chance.

And good luck getting a reference if you need to rent again next year.

I think before you decide not to pay,you need to speak to your dad and check that he's going to pay on your behalf.

Being a guarantor he will be liable to pay your rent if you do not and he may well have signed an agreement which means that he pays your housemates rent too if they do not pay.

I suspect your dad will tell you to pay.

I'm not fussed about a reference - not if it saves me £1000+

They won’t be fined if they have sent the details. Which they claim they have. You on the other hand appear to be thieving students who just want to do your landlord over.

They’ll just take your dad to court for the rent. And as you have no defence he’ll be liable for all of the fees that go with that.

I suppose my whole argument or hope, revolves around them not sending the notice and that they have no proof that they sent it - so why wouldn't they be fined?

Now that you are nearly getting ready to leave big school have you put any thought into when you expect to turn into an adult and how you will cope in grown up world?

It might save you £1000+, but it's going to cost your Dad that amount. You might be able to vanish, but they will have his address. How do you think he's going to take being stiffed by his own child? Do you think he will act as your guarantor again if you do this? How are you intending on renting in the future with no reference and no guarantor?

Part of me hopes you do try to dodge paying the rent so that you get what you so richly deserve.
