New Landlord

Hiya,
Mid-way through our tenancy our house was sold to a new Landlord. The new Landlords are saying that they wrote to the property to tell us about it, but we didn't receive anything. We did receive emails from our old Letting Company to tell us that the Landlord had switched and that the new Letting Company needed our details and wanted us to say that's OK for them to send over our details to them, but we never got round to emailing back, so the new company couldn't contact us apart from post.
When our rent was due to be paid again which we pay termly, we then did finally get in touch with the new letting company and they emailed over all the bank details etc. they let one of our housemates pay their rent late as they were waiting for a student loan which is why we contacted them
I have had a bit of a Google and see that the new company should have sent us a letter to confirm, but we honestly havent received anything but they are saying they sent it and sent it again via email when we told them we havent received it (which was like two or three months later)
but i just want to check, is the contract still valid? we pay are rent termly and only have one payment left to go and so im wondering if there is anyway we can get out of it. The new company havent made us sign a new contract and are saying that the old one is still valid so just checking?
thanks x

A new landlord doesn't change the contract. Why should you not pay for the final term? In letting someone pay their rent late they seem to have been ok so why are you seeking to shaft them?0

It's just that i signed the contract with the old Landlord, so think that it should be with them and has nothing to do with a new landlord.
Also what about the notice that we didn't get? Is there a way around it all as we didn't get that?0 -
Well, you think wrong. The contract is still valid no matter what happens to the landlords' interest. It's just that i signed the contract with the old Landlord, so think that it should be with them and has nothing to do with a new landlord.
The way round it (for the landlord) would be to now send you a notice. And if they have proof of already having posted it to you, that may be enough anyway. Also what about the notice that we didn't get? Is there a way around it all as we didn't get that?0 -
God will you look at the level of scrounging here, trying to get away from paying what is due.
You're out of luck, you need to pay.0 -

They say that they dropped it round personally as we only live 2mins away from there office. so there is no proof so surely that doesnt count? If they send one now, that's like 4 months since they bought it0 -
If you don't believe they're your new landlord, are you proposing to pay your rent to the old landlord? Or do you really think you don't need to pay rent to anyone? They say that they dropped it round personally as we only live 2mins away from there office. so there is no proof so surely that doesnt count? I just think that as we didn't receive the notice that they should have sent (Googled it - section three notice) then theres a way that the contract is invalid and so we dont have to pay them.
Also, we haven't had a proper notice or information to say that our old agent are not managing the house any more either. It just seems weird that after four months of basicaly not hearing anything we now have to pay the new landlord rent0 -

What reason would they have to lie?
On the balance of probability they probably did send it. It possibly arrived at a different time to the postman's delivery, ended up sitting on the mat until someone shuffled it up with all the junk mail and binned it.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. Like we've told you, you're wrong. But if you really want to ignore the advice you're getting for free here, up to you.I just think that as we didn't receive the notice that they should have sent (Googled it - section three notice) then theres a way that the contract is invalid and so we dont have to pay them.0 -
There are no circumstances here where you aren't liable for the rent, regardless of what the landlord has/hasn't done.0
