I think, I might me wrong, who knows but....
His wife is a carer (not a career) for two people with dementia and these two people wanted to buy something from Argos so the wife ordered it for them? After all the two people with dementia may have had an Argos card but they couldn't remember.Anyway the wife had not used her Argos card for years and had forgotten that she had not updated Argos of her new address for delivery of a £250 item (I wonder what was ordered, surely it required a signature?)
Op did not say that the item delivered had disappeared so not sure why Argos should give a refund, if it has disappeared and the ex neighbours have nicked it that's a different story.
I wonder if the OP has telephoned Argos................0 -
Did the purchaser give express permission for the goods to be delivered to an alternative address? (i.e. neighbour). If not then the goods are still Argos' liability.0

I would like to warn all other users to carry on using Argos but check the address it's being sent too.
.
I would like to warn others that always double checking the address what ever the service is prudent
There is some sort of address data base that is used by many companies that is not in sync with the post office one and gives false results
We have had much trouble with this ( road names changed)
when we moved in our address was
15 The Chase
Meadow Way
XXXXXX
AA1 1AA
There is a separate road called Meadow way and there is a house 15 there but different postcode
A few years ago the PO changed our postal address because of the confusion
15 The Chase
Meadow Way
XXXXXX
AA1 1AA
The other Database updated our address to
15 Meadow Way
XXXXXX
AA1 1AA
This has caused
British Gas to turn up for a service at the other address
Santander to send bank details to the other address
BT to be unable to fix my broadband for 3 weeks as Openreach detected a postcode mismatch but could not tell BT call center staff about this
TFL sending Oyster cards to the other address and then absurdly suggested that I did not know my own address.
All of these are companies who had my old address before
Moral always check !0 -

Well if you want to get into detail.
Post Office don't deal with any address data. That would be Royal Mail.
Companies pay for their PAF data and it depends how often they want to pay as to how often their data gets updated.
Also the human element of manual changes comes into play.
what you describe on your address is nothing out of the ordinary.0 -
Don't feed the troll - this is obviously a wind up post.
There's not a chance anyone could be that daft to blame Argos for this - it's beyond ridiculous.0 -

argos refuse a refund.
I don't think this iss right under the general data protection regulations Argos have not made any effort to check data. We had moved six years ago so do they have a right to do this? Is there any way we can get back the £250 pounds?
I would warn all other users about this retention of data
Last time I checked it wasn’t Argos’s job to check the address you provided them with was correct, this is undoubtedly your responsibility.0
